Corzine budget adds funds to Operation CeaseFire
For 10 months, the organizers of Operation CeaseFire have been preaching against gun violence in Newark and Irvington but have been limited by a shoestring budget. Now, they may have hit the jackpot.

Gov. Jon Corzine wants to give them $750,000 to redouble their efforts in the two cities and move into three more bullet-riddled towns: Trenton, Camden and Jersey City.

Corzine included the money in his fiscal 2007 budget proposal unveiled yesterday.

"This is great news," said Michael Wagers, director of the Police Institute at Rutgers-Newark and the lead organizer of CeaseFire. "We'll take everything we can because the folks on the street - police officers and outreach workers - are doing a tremendous job on a tight budget."

Operation CeaseFire, modeled after a program that has been partly responsible for a historic drop in killings in Chicago, began last May in a 2-square-mile area that includes some of New Jersey's most violent street crime. The program meshes police crackdowns, social services and outreach by ex-cons and former gang members, who try to talk people out of retaliatory attacks. Since May, non-fatal shootings have dropped, but homicides - which CeaseFire does not target - are up.

Now Wagers hopes to include homicides in his program, and expand it into the other three cities by the end of the year, he said.

"This money will get us fired up," he said.

So now you guys in NJ should demand that your extra Tax Money not go to this place. Tell them you are not against firearms and that you demand your part of that tax money go to NRA-ILA.....See how they like that.
This is like him adding extra money to smokers and drinkers. But yet Smokers can't smoke in public any place. Yet they balance the budget almost all the time. So now they will take your guns and ammo away and gun ranges away for you to shoot, but your taxes will go help pay for it.

Nothing new here, just a typical day in NJ.
This down hill slide is at least 30 years in the making and we have been gaining speed the whole time. I once attributed our screwed up politics to voter ignorance but given the many opportunities they have had to learn from their mistakes I know now it is just arrogance and stupidity.
It’s a pity since ignorance can be cured but stupidity compounded by arrogance is terminal.

They interviewed this moron woman on the news about the sales tax increases. She said "well it's only a penny increase." No stupid, it's 1% on just about everything you buy. Corsuck has also proposed taxing previously untaxed items. If that woman added up that 1% on all her family's purchases for the year she would realize what a 1% increase would mean to the family budget.

Higher taxes mean higher government spending which will result in having to raise taxes again to support the increase in government supported programs.  Couple that with a decreasing tax base and you are once again setting the state up for economic disaster.

I feel safer already in our little socialist utopia.

I love it when the sheeple are told on one hand taxes have to go up to cover deficits in the budget, plus talk about different agencies cutting back (which never seems to happen), while at the same time proposing new spending for more feel good social programs.  No reaction from most taxpayers.   The same hustle goes on in NY and every state where the commie libs have a stranglehold.  Me, I feel outrage.

As usual, the uber rich can absorb the increases, or more than likely have their accountants find more creative ways to shelter their assets, and the poor get a free ride.  Sucks being the soon to be extinct middle class.

Back when they put in the Express EZ-Pass thingies on the Garden State Parkway, which let you breeze thru at the speed limit instead of slowing/stopping, I actually saw some moron being interviewed saying she was afraid of it and liked the old way better.  

This person actually went on camera saying she liked having to stop for tolls instead of cruising on thru the plazas.

What does operation ceasefire actually do? I did a google search finding a couple of documents describing them, but they just seem to spout a bunch of buzz words without actually saying much.

Apparently Ceasefire New Jersey had something to do with the AWB, but I don't think these two are the same. Maybe this isn't such a big deal.

Anyway, I'm not planning to stick around New Jersey long enough to find out.

I'll tell you what New Yorkers and New Jersians, Pennsylvania is looking more and more promising each day.

This crap is going to continue unless we can muster enough votes to override the sheep and the dedicated liberals.  Somehow, especially here in NY with downstate and the City, I doubt it will ever happen.

I hope our so-called "Republican" and "Conservative" representatives realize what is going to happen in both NJ and NY if this gets any worse.  A majority of their constituency is going to jump ship, making this area of the Northeast a true liberal haven.  "They" can have their way, and watch them follow in the footsteps of California.  Their economy will crumble as we leave the area with a greater tax burden, and crime will soar because the only people who would've stood up to the criminal element will be gone.

This could be a good thing though, because the liberals will screw up, and people might take on a more conservative mindset to fix the problem.

We have to try and fix it while we can, but I'm not looking forward to the next election.

Corzine is getting national attention for his new $2.x BIL tax increase and hopefully that will pave the way for action.

We absolutely need to get a Stand Your Ground bill and/or Shall Issue CCW bill introduced here in NJ this year.  Look at all the national attention these get in other states.

Simple, find an Assemblyman willing to author (copy from other states' CCW bills) and then help him/her rally support from other Assemblymen.

I'm going to go ahead and set up a meeting w/ my one or both of my Assemblymen (both NRA "A" rated) and discuss this.  Objective is to gauge their willingness to author and push Stand Your Ground and/or Shall Issue CCW bill(s), and if so, when.  

I'll be bringing a few PowerPoint slides showing the home invasion stats I've been referencing, and the data package on Shall-Issue state crime rate impacts.

If they want more voter traffic before they're willing to move, it's good feedback to NJCSD.

If they have no intention of doing either, regardless of the traffic, then we need to keep plugging with other Assemblymen until we find a supporter.

Basically the same thing, one in the House, one in the Assembly. You can probably track them back as being reintroduced every year for the past who knows how many years. Introducing the bill is the easy part, its not hard to find one or two members of the legislature who are of a mind to support shall issue, or revising the whole FID process, or just about any other measure to address the dreck of the current system.

The problem is twofold.....one is finding enough leverage to get a bill pushed out of committee, a VERY tall order in and of itself (how many bills like the ones above made it out of committee? Think crickets chirping). The other, which makes the first look like a first grade spelling bee, is to obtain enough support in the legislature to survive both a full vote AND a revote following gubernatorial veto.

S'why its good to see the NJCSD growing, and why I was very happy that I heard a while ago they'd made contacts with a few lobbyists. I'll put it to you the way a friend of mine who clerked in the state assembly a number of years ago did...

"Gun owners? Yeah, I've seen those letters...they all went into one folder. Whenver it got big enough that they couldn't fit any more it got dumped in the trash....unread".

Well, it's a start.  But as hard-case said, it's an uphill battle.  Luckily we have the NJCSD seeing as the NRA isn't exactly flexing their muscles around here.  They really need to wake up and realize that NJ has some hard-core oppression going on and we need their help.

Sucks because I live right next to Trenton.  The gang problem is getting fairly bad there.  Just the other day the police raided a house with about 100 gang bangers having a meeting inside.

The FBI did a study several years ago baised on allegations of blacks being stopped for traffic violations... turns out they were being cited more often because they were breaking the law more often.
