Oh wait - your police chaps don't have guns.

You obviously don't know what the alleged cause of the first riot was, a protest against a fatal shooting by the police of a local man.

Yeah - I'm fairly ignorant of the whole situation. Are your regular street cops armed with guns?

I was simply going to shorten your comment. However in the spirit of education, there are @140,000 Police Officers in the country and 43 Forces of varying size. Of these only @6500 are routinely armed (but only @2000 are on duty nationally at any one time, probably nearer 1500 actually). Regular street cops are not armed. We have armed cars (Armed Response Vehicles), that consist of at least two officers who carry sidearms, Taser and Carbines (9mm or 5,56mm, semi-auto only). They are first response to a firearms/lethal force incident but of course cannot be everywhere and rarely in the right place at the right time. All forces will also have a Tactical Weapons Team capability depending on the size of the Force. Some will be full time. Smaller forces have Team officers on call from other roles.

That's the short answer.

79,000 signatures so far.......  HM Govt website is inundated at the moment.

Might be worth signing up for when it is up and running again.

Subject matter

Convicted London rioters should loose all benefits.

Responsible department: Department for Work and Pensions

Any persons convicted of criminal acts during the current London riots should have all financial benefits removed. No tax payer should have to contribute to those who have destroyed property, stolen from their community and shown a disregard for the country that provides for them.

Correction - Yes you can, there is a place to add your country and check boxes to say if you're a UK citizen/resident or not.

It's up to 95,000 so far.

Can you just bring back beheadings?

Certainly would cause some personal responsibility either before or after.
