How is carry of a long gun different for those with permits? I didn't think it was.
The articles I have seen say no change, still no loaded rifles in cars. For anyone.

Ohio law doesn’t grant any special privileges to CCW holders in terms of carrying a loaded long gun in a vehicle, as far as I know. And I’ve been carrying for 10+ years now.

Not an attorney though.

Currently, without a CHL, long guns must be cased and separated from ammo/loaded mags.  With a CHL, no case requirements nor separate storage requirements.  With or without a CHL, long guns cannot be loaded.

There's much more, but those are the BIG ones.

no, ...the changes brought forth will only apply to concealed carry within Ohio...

...the CHL (license) still has some perks, ...a big one being the reciprocity agreements between Ohio and numerous other states...  those agreements are established by state A.G.s, and when you are in another state, you are subject to the laws and conditions for concealed carry of the respective state (i.e. including their terms for allowing out-of-staters to CC, most require you have your state's CHL and a reciprocity agreement in place).

...also, very important: i can't stress enough - the changes being brought to bear in SB 215 are not effective until 90 days from today... so, we have to abide by the existing CC statute, including the duty-to-notify, until the 90 day grace period is crossed...

VICTORY: Gun-Rights Advocates Score a MAJOR Win in Ohio

It should be noted that the new law only applies to “qualifying adults” who have resided in Ohio for at least 45 days, are age 21 or older, and are not otherwise prohibited from owning a firearm under state or federal law. Those who wish to utilize reciprocity agreements with other states will still need to obtain a license to do so.

“This is a day that will go down in history,” Dean Rieck, executive director of BFA, said in a statement. “The brass ring has always been to eliminate the licensing mandate, which people refer to as permitless carry or Constitutional Carry. And now, finally, that day is here. This is a great moment for Ohio and for those who wish to more fully exercise their Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.”

Rieck noted that DeWine had promised his group in a candidate questionnaire that he would sign a constitutional carry bill if it landed on his desk, saying that the governor has fulfilled his promise” to Ohio’s four million gun owners.
View Quote

The Firearms Policy Coalition thanked those involved with the passage of the bill in a press release: “We recognize that this historic achievement in human liberty would not be possible without the dedicated effort made by the good people of Ohio. On behalf of our members and supporters, FPC thanks Gov. DeWine, bill sponsor Sen. Terry Johnson, and the numerous Ohio senators and representatives for their unwavering leadership in making Ohio the 23rd state to enact permitless-carry legislation; a trend we aim to continue in the months and years ahead.”

...guys, to my knowledge the NRA has been an active participant in getting constitutional carry over the line here in Ohio...

...if you go back and listen to BFA's right-to-bear podcasts, you'll know that the NRA field rep for our region has been interviewed several times over the last year on such efforts...

...i believe they also provide proponent testimony to legislative committees routinely, ...so feel free to check the record...

...certainly lots of folks behind the scenes have been working in tandem to bring it to bear - IMO, this has been a big team effort...

...this is probably one of the more straightforward and factual reports from a "news" outlet i've seen thus far:

Gov. Mike DeWine signs bill eliminating required training, permits for carrying concealed weapons

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Republican Gov. Mike DeWine signed into law Monday a measure that will make a concealed weapons permit optional for anyone legally allowed to carry a gun and eliminate the requirement that individuals “promptly” notify police officers that they are carrying a concealed weapon.
View Quote

Gun owners can still apply for a concealed weapons permit under the legislation, allowing those who obtain it to carry a concealed weapon in states with reciprocity agreements recognizing such permits. In encounters with police, the bill requires only that individuals confirm they are carrying a weapon if asked by an officer.

The Buckeye Firearms Association said 21 other states allow people to carry a concealed weapon without a license. Gun control groups such as Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America opposed it, as did law enforcement groups concerned about the legislation’s lack of required training.

The Ohio Democratic Party accused the governor of caving “to special interest groups and extremists,” saying the measure “will make all Ohioans less safe.”

...FOP must have dreams of honest criminals...

DeWine approves permitless carry bill

Michael Weinman, director of government affairs for the Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio, said dropping the notification requirement was “one of the critical points” that led the FOP to oppose SB 215.

“We see the notification as a commonsense measure to keep the permit holder and officer safe,” Weinman said.

He further expressed concern that eliminating the notification requirement could lead to “repeated denials” by concealed carry owners to comply with law enforcement’s inquiries about them possessing a firearm, putting officers in potentially dangerous situations.

“By essentially eliminating the CHL, the number of individuals carrying concealed handguns will undoubtedly increase. And with that increase, individuals who have not had any training have not been subject to a background check and can avoid a suspension or revocation by a sheriff,” Weinman said. “Will officers be faced with more gun violence?”

Some LEO's are such because they enjoy the power.  Those with that attitude don't like the idea that others are legally armed as well.

...this woke turd leaves her gun in her vehicle out on the driveway...  ...but, according to her, it's we who are negligent and dangerous...

Hamilton County Sheriff’s gun, county car stolen from driveway

CINCINNATI (WXIX) -Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey’s assigned county car was stolen from her driveway Saturday with her gun inside.

Sheriff McGuffey told FOX19 her car was stolen from her Columbia Tusculum home and was found near Kings Run Drive and Winnestee Avenue.

The gun, however, was not found.

She says she responded to an incident involving a man barricading himself Friday night. When she got home, she parked her unmarked car in the driveway.

Sheriff McGuffey says, as is normal for her, she left her gun in a secured compartment in her locked car.

As she was leaving for the airport for a Sheriff’s conference around 8 a.m. Saturday morning, she noticed her car was stolen and reported it.

...she leaves her sidearm in the car in the driveway overnight...

so sick of these virtue-signaling jackasses who project their inadequacies on the rest of us...

McGuffey:

Hamilton County sheriff: County car was 'locked', 'alarmed' before stolen with gun inside

"I had gone out to a barricaded individual out in Symmes Township. So, you know, when I got home, I locked up the car because it was just, yeah, I secured it in the vehicle and locked the car in my own driveway and got busy with something else I had to put my attention to," McGuffey said. "The next morning is when I discovered the vehicle had been stolen right out of my driveway."

She said the cruiser was stolen in Columbia Tusculum and found in the Winton Terrace area on Saturday afternoon.

The gun was gone, according to officials.

I can't believe they're still parroting this narrative which has been proven wrong in every other state with permit less carry.

The logic behind having to notify an officer you're carrying makes no sense either and i don't understand why they think it increases officer safety to maintain it. How many videos are there of an officer being shot at after the ccw holder has notified them are carrying? Cause i can find a ton of videos showing cops shot at by people before they even get to the car, most illegally carrying BTW. Not too mention their system notified them of a ccw holder with they ran the plate.

The bill came up just at the right time, as Taft promised he would support CCW just before re-election, and once in, he moved the goal post. Luckily, we had the votes to override his veto

DeWine on the other hand. I can't stand him, never could, ever since he was part of the Gang of 14, and I held my nose and voted for him as Governor, this time round, I'll hold my.vote...

Serious comment, and not meant as a knee jerk, but any officer who would assume a vehicle stop driver is unarmed, except if the driver has a CHL and drive 'informs the office' they are carrying, pretty much reaps what they sow.

How can these people be so fuckling disingenuous and no one calls then out? Rhetorical question obviously... we know the media is on the same page as FOP.  Fuck them for lying.
