I posted this over in handguns, but maybe here is more appropriate.

Anyone have any idea about average turnaround time? I applied just over 8wks ago. They say it can take UP TO 120 days. I was wondering if anyone got theirs before the 120 day "deadline"

yeah, I got mine 1 or 2 days before the 120...they make it when you apply & mail it later, much later...

Yep, I saw it printed out when I went. I was thinking they'd probably push the 120 day mark.

I live in Alabama. For most counties here, it's very easy to get a pistol permit. As long as something doesn't show up on your background check, you're good to go. I filled out a short application, they did a background check, took my picture and handed me the pistol permit. It took about 15 minutes the first time I got mine. Of course, it's a little different for every county in Alabama. Some are better than others. Mine is one of the better ones.

Oh, I didn't see the part about being in AL. Must be nice. Most of the time it's nice to live in MS as far as firearms laws are concerned. Guess AL has at least this one advantage over us

What county? Mine took about a week & it doesn't have my pic on it,,,,in fact, I've just received my renewal notice and I will just simply mail it back with my $15.00 and they will mail the new one to me. This is in Cullman County.

I'm in Mobile County. It's $20 here. I also get a notice every year. I just mail in the fee and after a week or so my new permit arrives. I have the choice of mailing it or stopping by the sheriff's office. If I renew at the sheriff's office, it only takes about 15 minutes. Here's what mine looks like:

I blurred out the personal information. It's made of plastic, like a credit card. It has my picture in the lower left hand corner. Even though there is a space for my social security number, starting this year they no longer put it on the permit. It's supposed to reduce identity theft.

ditto for me..Mobile county took 10 minutes, and the next year it was renewed by mail!

Mine was closer to 3 months, but that was nearly 4 years ago right after I turned 21. Things are likely backlogged worse now.

Great thing about MS, anyone can have a gun in their car because MS considers your car an extension of your property. Too bad other states dont follow that lead.

We're at day 102 now. Should come in any time now. It looks like they are pushing it right out to the 120 mark nowadays.

Yeah I finally did. Got busy working ~90 hours a week and forgot to post. Turns out that the woman that mails them out was on vacation around the 120 mark. So, I got it on day 125 or 126.
