I don't post often in here  but found something cool enough to share and remind us Carolinians what our great state  was like not that long ago.

I could say something about the how ATF should be a store but the sign does a far better job, plus precedes the agency by few decades....

Image's  information,  November 1939. "General store. Zebulon, Wake County, North Carolina." Medium format acetate negative by Marion Post Wolcott for the "Farm Security Administration". Your (great or great-great-)grandparent's tax dollars at work in more ways than one....

https://www.shorpy.com/node/26149#comments   Comments are also heavily screened. Which makes reading the comments on the image usually enriching and if possible a modern day image from the same spot will be added. As you see on the old store below, they found the building was still standing.

So as not to blow out the forum's formatting, this is the link to that  full size of that  image is  https://www.shorpy.com/node/26149?size=_original#caption Best viewed on a real computer's monitor or scroll for days warning. I hope you enjoy looking at the different plows that detail shows.

Shorpy's is an old Photograph  blog (no Pinterest crap), where when you go to to the image page link you will see the "Full Size"  option.  Which are best viewed on a larger computer monitor for the details of eye candy level in huge images.   The negatives & images used on & by the website are from  the year about 1850+/-  to  the 1950's.

Search of  "North Carolina" Brings up some cool history

https://www.shorpy.com/search/node/North+Carolina

Gives plenty of images but doesn't show all the mills that searching by the city's and/or  county's name will add. Which will also gives you farms and families.

A parting Shot

https://www.shorpy.com/node/25713

"Girl archers from Camp Greystone, Tuxedo, N.C., demonstrate fancy shooting attired in latest fashion for the bow and arrow sport -- 'shorts' and sox."

August 23, 1928. "A perfect miss with every shot -- Miss Isabel Bonsack of St. Louis, Mo., has a right to feel happy that her fellow members of the Camp Greystone archery team are skillful markswomen. Miss Bonsack volunteered to act as a target during an exhibition of girl archers at the Grove Park Inn, Asheville, North Carolina."

I also reposted this with more subjects options and photos in GD at

Neat, our state is truly amazing and I feel blessed to have been born here. Camp Greystone is still in operation, about $1900 per week. Summer camps were and still are an important economic driver in the Western end of the state but several have closed, covid put a few out permanently.
