"Cleaning it when it went off" That is such a tired old cliche.  And  probably untrue.  Can't tell you WHAT she (or, more likely, her boyfriend) was doing with the gun - but I doubt it had anything to do with cleaning it.

I am glad they charged her.  Hopefully the gun's owner will learn something from this.

Yeah, and if it was me, I would most likely tell the same lie.  It is really bad when someone gets shot twice and the gun went off while it was being cleaned.  Idiots!

Especially when it's in the back of their head.

Hate it when that happens...

True story (and one of the reasons that I have absolutely no respect for Fairfax County investigators):
A very close friend was killed, shot several times in the back (torso & back of the head).

Them: "Do you think that it could have been suicide?"
Me: "You're shitting me, right?"
Them: (total deadpan): "We have to consider the possibility"

I was taught years ago whenever cleaning firearms, I should always have my pants around my ankles, hardcore pornography on the TV, and an open bottle of hooch nearby.

Then if I did shoot myself with a ND, the investigating police would have a heckuva story.
