They opened up a week or so ago. I got a chance to stop by today. Big showroom. Well stocked for just starting into business. Large selection of handguns. Good selection of Mossbergs and they had some nice AR15s too. Colt, Bushmaster and others. Had some used and surplus guns too. I picked a very nice deal on a old Russian M38 carbine. I missed them when they were common on the C&R market. So I was very happy to find this one. They have Bulldog rifle cases and some accessories and cleaning gear. They still have about 1/3 of their showroom left to fill.

I'm looking forwards to seeing them get even more in stock. They're right on my way home from work too. This could do some damage to my wallet over time.

They're on south Military Hiway in Deep Creek in the strip mall next to the McDonalds. Well worth going there to check them out. And I've no connection to them other than I'm excited to see a big new dealer in our neighborhood.

Cool.  Thanks for the heads-up.

I heard their ad on the radio.  I was thinking of checking them out, so good to know it won't be a wasted trip.

I cleaned up that M38 this morning. Just what I hoped for. VGC. Lightly frosted bore but shiny with strong rifling and no pitting or erosion. Better than usual trigger feel. Still had a lot of cosmo to clean out. Last owner wasn't too thorough on that. Should be an excellent shooter.
Its all set for my next trip to Camp Allen Range. Good fun sending 2 foot wide fireballs downrange with these!
This was cool as it was built on a 1907 Imperial Russia made reciever. Very cool old markings on it! Makes it the oldest one in my collection.

Right now I'd say thier shop has about as many hand guns in stock as the Armory does. Perhaps a bit more. Not as many military style rifles. But they mentioned it is difficult to get stock in now as market demand has ramped up. I know another dealer with the same issue. Not near as many accessories yet as the Armory, but they are off to a good start and have plenty of room for more. As they fill that show room up I can see them rivaling the selection at Bob's in downtown Norfolk.

I heard he may be sponsoring a match in conjunction with C2 and Aggressive Defensive Solutions in the fall, check C2's site in the future. Heard this in scuttle yesterday, carbine, pistol, long gun, etc.

Great, someplace on the way home from work!

If you don't mind me asking, what was the ballpark for the M38?  The Armory had a M39 for $450, which I though kind of high. However ... it looked like an M38 to me (not that I'm an expert!)

I paid $150 for the M38. Very fair IMO.

An M39 is a Finnish rifle and much more valuable. But most of them run in the $300 to $400 range depending on which arsenal made them, condition, etc. $450 for one seems very steep to me.
I have a minty M39 made by Valmet that cost $329 a few years back when I got it from Classic Arms. (Back when Ben still ran the place.) Its beautifully made and a great shooter too.

Just visited.  So-so - about 3/4 filled, probably around 50 rifles. Only about 10 used, about 10 AR's, the rest are hunting/shotgun types. Maybe 70 pistols, only 5 used.

Not many accessories (fine, it's not a gun store). Cleaning kits, blackhawk/serpa holsters, a few cases and pistol truck safes.

Overall, spent maybe 20 minutes there.

I stopped by about a weak ago and they had already packed away most of the guns and the had 45 mins till they closed. I got the feel they where more of just another pawn shop. I was really hoping for a good gun shop. I live right around the corner and I do plan on stopping by again but first impression was not great.

I stopped in after work yesterday. About 4 pm. Their selection of stock is up about 30% since the last time I was in there. I was impressed.

I don't know when they close, but it does sound a bit cheesy to pack up that far in advance of closing time. So far I have been treated very well there. Their staff seems very professional and knows the products. They now have more guns in stock than the Armory and will rival the selection at Bob's if they jam much more in! They carry a selection of knives now too.

I saw they had Glock knives in stock. Picked up one with the saw on the blade back. I've had one w/o the saw for a couple years now. GREAT camping knife. Just about indestructable. I use it to dig privy holes and even chop small kindling. They even have a bottle opener built into it. I believe this one will tackle bigger kindling with that saw feature. I haven't seen these in stock anywhere for a while. So I thought it was cool they had them. I'll retire the old plain one to my trucks tool kit.

I think they are on their way to being a terrific shop.

I understand business owners can make their own rules - that's just fine and dandy by me.

I hope they also understand they are responsible for any impact "their" rules may have on said business revenues. Why go there when you can ride to the Armory, Great Bridge Guns, Bob's or any show and pick up a pistol on the same day?

To each his own.

The fact that the "gun business" is growing is great.  I would rather see a business open than one close..I am going to check them out this weekend.

Yeah it pretty much BS. I'll take my money elsewhere.

I've had a permit for some years now. I'm not gonna worry about it.

Sure with the permit no problems, just don't see that as the point as much as business modeling.

I believe a policy of not releasing handguns to non-permit holders as a business rule versus a law is a competitive disadvantage when compared to other local stores.

I suspect their rule comes from the following:

* The store is located relatively close to the Camelot section of Chesapeake, and area know to have more than it's fair share of questionable residents. The Camelot residents would be the likely groups that would frequent Pawn Shops. This the location of the shop ties into this. Before someone accuses me about being racist etc... just go ahead and tell me location of the pawn shop near Las Gaviotas.  :-) Perhaps thier policy is to cover them from liability in case a State background check was incorrect. Limiting liability is a reasonable business practice, but it does not negate the policy as being a competitive disadvantage when compared to other shops.

* I understand the former owner was retired LEO, so may have been his personal policy that was carried forward with new ownership.

I wish them well in their endeavors.

I've lived here for 23 years and I can say that Camelot is an UPSCALE nieghborhood compared to much of the rest of this immediate area. That area there on Military Hiway is rank with druggies, hookers and other lowlifes. The part I live in is kinda upscale redneck as we all actually have jobs. Then theres the trailer parks and the town homes where folks work hard to make them as ghetto as possible. Its been an interesting place to live. I can tell you that. Back when I was a young man with two kids to raise it was all we could afford. I plan to move in a few years and go semi retired.

I'm sure they have their reasons and I'm fine with it. As a long time resident here I can see why they do it.

Another thought...the frak tards who built their web page just copied some shite from another site and CHES G&P does not even know.  I have a permit so I could care less.  Sometimes I will go "gun shopping" with new shooters (I teach the NRA Basic Pistol class) and I encourage them to get a permit, IMHO it just makes life easier (until you get pulled for a traffic ticket, but that is avoidable).  My point is why would anyone on here and in the know not have a CHP?  As far as the riff raff, they will just steal a gun or jump back over to PoteSmiff and buy  one.      I hope all the shops in VA Beach do this if the light rail goes through.
