How many of you are up for a carbine class on March 25
same deal as always 4 hours $25 you will need 200 rounds carbine and 50 or so of pistol Time Noon to 4Pm Mike |
That's the weekend of the group shoot at Charlie Elliot. Any chance you could move the data to the 4th or 18th? A lot of guys are going to the CE shoot.

Mike,
Since I don't own an AR15, can I take the class using an AK? Thanks, Accountant |
You are most welcome to take the class with an AK, I do have a spare AR and a Beretta AR70 and an MP5 that I will bring along for those of you who are black gun deprived or who have not shot them.
I forgot to mention that a sling that allows you to carry muzzle down is required. Can be single, two or three point. You will need a spare mag or two and holder or a big pocket. I thought I would offer a couple class specials from Talon Tactical 1. Buy a rifle mag pouch for $15 - thats $5 off 2. Buy a holster get a free Talon Tactical T-shirt thats $12 off 3. Buy a holster and 2 mag pouches take the class free thats $25 off these deals are for people taking the class only Mike |
I'd be in plus 2 if it wasn't on the 18th. Got a wedding to go to. Anyway to do it the next weekend or the 4th?
I really hate to miss it but I'm training with Larry Vickers that weekend. Maybe I'll get lucky and the date will change.
who is this Vickers fellow? |
Of course. But, I goofed when I last posted about my schedule. I'm tied up on the 18th too. Damn machine gun shoots. |
I am not deprived. I just chose a better rifle. Will the Spec-Ops Mamaba sling qualify? I haven't taken it out of the package yet so I don't know which direction it hangs. Accountant |

Larry Vickers is an ex SF dude/well sought after gunsmith. He is a close colleague of Ken Hackathorn and Rob Haught. His classes are first rate and usually booked way in advance. Rich Touch is hosting him at South River. I've heard his classes are as intense as those taught by SDave. I'm looking forward to it. |

The 25th is definitely more ideal. What kind of magazine holders would we need?
Let me know when you unorganized people figure out what day it is.
What's a good M4/CAR sling? I'd like to use the same sling for both stock types.
Should we take up a collection for the BraddD mag pouch fund? ....................cheap ass! |
Specter Gear CQB 3-point is my favorite. You can borrow one if you'd like to try it. |
Ditto. |

TY for the offers. IM sent brad. You're about 500 miles closer than book! |

BS. GABeechman hasn't been around here for MONTHS, nay YEARS! Who are you and how did you get into his account? |
I'm trying to get off my arse and get back in the game. Tired of taking all the crap from 00bullitt.
I'm interested but have never taken a class before ... is it newbie friendly? Thanks ....
In for the 25th. Week after that I have hand surgery, so no more postponements!!
Mikes classes are extremely newbie friendly. Excellent for the newbie to learn the basics and great for the bit more experienced to get quality repetitive trigger time. I highly recommend getting one of his belt pouches for a spare mag and maybe a Maxpedition Rolly Polly dump pouch. Quality mags and a good sling too. Know your zero before coming. 50 yards is a good BZO. See you there......hopefully.
What do most guys use for sights on the AR's at the classes? EOTECH, AIMPOINT, Iron sights?
Aimpoint and irons here. |
Mike,
I am up for the class but would like to know what type of targets we will be shooting. I plan on using my SBR. If we are punching paper I use cheap WWB 55gr. but if we are going to knock down steel I need to bring 75gr. match grade ammo. MadDog |
As much as Mike gets swept (a lot) I have yet to see him freak out. He'll point out their errors, for sure. I've taken people I don't know well to Mike's class and people I know very well, They all have very good after reports, as newbies. With carbines though, I don't think any sweeping is acceptable. ; ) |
Plan for paper is my guess. Then again, a nice delta drill on the rifle range would be pretty cool. |
Where is Pickens? How do you get there? Is there a web site with info on the range?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, MadDog |
Mapquest Talking Rock, GA. That will get you close enough. Range is only a few minutes from there. I'll post directions later.
Me and (+1?) for the 25th. This will be my first class, and I can't wait. Bookhound, maybe we can meet, and I can follow you up.
Not a problem. |
March 25th, I should have another AR by then and plenty of time to get some toys for it. Count me in on the 25th if thats the case.
