Is it possible to get a curio & relic license in upstate NY?? Are rifles ok, but handguns still have to go through a FFL?

I am in Buffalo/Niagara Falls area and have a C&R. Took just over 30 days to get it 2 years ago.
Yes all Handguns(even C&R) in NY State must go thru a FFL and you must have a pistol permit.

So is the ATF interview over the phone, at your house, or at the local ATF office?

ETA: BTW I sent for mine about 4 weeks ago.

How long did it take for you Cityrepo61?
Link Posted: 8/11/2005 7:43:19 PM EDT
Yep. Just have to do the interview. I believe you have the option of visiting their office, me, I made the guy drive 70 miles to my house
Link Posted: 8/12/2005 3:48:35 AM EDT
Where does it say an interview is required ? Is that just a local thing ?
Link Posted: 8/12/2005 4:24:14 AM EDT
Got mine in Buffalo earlier this year. No interview was done over the phone or in person. Took a month from the time they got the check, would have been sooner if I had sent a money order

Does the C&R have the zoning requirements that a regular type FFL has (in Erie County)?

Where do you go to apply? Is it county by county?

Apply through the ATF. Get the form and the citizenship form and send them in with the check.

yep mine drove out from Brooklyn to Riverhead for my interview which consisted mostly of the 2 of us BS'ing about guns. Very easy interview and the main reason for the visit that I can see is they want to be sure you have a place to secure your "collection" ie: a GUN SAFE............................

Good luck with yours!

Here's a good source for info:
http://www.gunsnet.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=339

This is an excellent site:
http://p102.ezboard.com/bparallaxscurioandrelicfirearmsforums

Here's a list of suppliers to send your FFL copy to for guns and discounts on supplies:
J&G, AIM, SOG, I/O, Century, Aztec, are all very good places to deal with.
http://www.gunsnet.net/forums/showthread.php?t=54379

Defin send one to Century as they are the largest importer. Get on their monthly specials list.
They will give you 01FFL pricing on all guns and receivers.

Midway, Brownell's and Graffs give C&Rs a discount.

Link Posted: 8/13/2005 6:33:23 AM EDT

I don't think that matters. I didn't have one at the time, he said it wasn't required, and I said we planned on getting one eventually anyway.

Will Century ship rifles directly to a C&R in NYS? The way I read the website disclaimer it says they will only ship to a 01 FFL
Link Posted: 8/14/2005 4:15:41 AM EDT
Century does ship C&R rifles to NY C&R holders. New rifles and all pistols must go to 01FFL.
You must get your copy to them in advance so they can get it recorded.

It took 6-8 weeks to get the call to set up the interview. She came out and made sure I had a drivers license and lived some where. She verbally reviewed the laws and made me sign a paper saying I understood them. Then she left. Told her I had a safe and another on the way and she said great. Other than that nothing. I was told it would take another 4-8 weeks to get the license.

I was told that they HAVE to come to your house. A quote from the agent who interviewed me "After 9/11 we want to make sure that you are the person you say you are and that you really live here. That is why we come to your house.".

The in home interview seems std practice in the south eastern NYS and NYC area. They do not do this on the west side of the state or even in many other areas of the country. Thank our friends in Albany and your local government for the additional restrictions on gun ownership.

It all may depend upon whether or not they have a field office in your area. BATF used to have offices in downtown Buffalo.

I sent in my application this week. I will keep you posted on the progress.

I've been thinking about it but I'm not sure how much C&R stuff is left that I want that I don't already have. Probably an Enfield and possibly an SKS. I already have a Mauser, 1903, M1, M1 Carbine, and Mosin Nagant

From what I understand Brownells, Numrich and a couple of other places give C&R a dealer discount.

The forms arrived in yesterdays mail. That was fast.

In the instructions it says to send the second page copy to the Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) in the locality in which the premises sought to be liscensed are located. It doesnt say whether they need to sign off on it for approval, so what is the purpose of sending them a copy?

No the CLEO doesn't need to sign off. Its just so they know what you're up to.

The forms come fast but waiting for the actual license well thats another story

Step into the waiting room please. The ATF will be with you shortly in 6 - 8 weeks

Edited with update:

Or maybe at least 11 weeks

I think the ATF doesn't like me
