Ranks fourth in technology, third in education,  FORTY THIRD in business friendly.

What does this mean?  It means we have brains, lots of them, which then LEAVE.

It means Greater Rochester Enterprises, StartUp NY, and NYS Economic Development are a waste of our money.

It means people good, politicians bad  (did this surprise anyone?)

Another report from "The Institute of Duh".  Long Island politicians are screaming that all the young people are leaving.  Stony Brook, Hofstra and Adelphi are top rated schools and as soon as the kids graduate, they are out of here.  Suffolk has convinced itself that by spending $375 million on a light rail and other transportation improvements in the Stony Brook area, the kids will stay.  I would love to have some of what they are smoking/injecting/drinking because that is not the reason and the fact that the politicians believe this is the problem speaks volumes as to how clueless they are.  A letter in today's Newsday put it bluntly; it is to damn expensive to live and work here and the jobs are moving elsewhere because the employers can lower their overhead elsewhere.  Kids are not going to stay here because they can take a trolley from Stony Brook to a downtown center.  And telling them they can have "affordable" housing in the form of life in a dense pack townhouse community to the tune of $400K+ with taxes around $10K doesn't scream "stay here" either.  I hated apartment life and want to have a house with lawn on four sides and a nice backyard with trees.  I did not yearn to live in the modern equivalent of a brownstone in the middle of Long Island and fork over 40% of my salary for the privilege.

Its only a matter of time until NY = Detroit only a state-wide level.

According to Rochester politicians, the reason that young people are leaving is the lack of anything to do downtown.  After hours boredom is the reason.

It means the residents of NYC and NYS continually elect the wrong representatives.

Edited to include the large, self-centered city that fucks the entire state in every election.

Another example of how reality never permeates politics.

or the citizenry for that matter.  There was a letter-to-the-editor in today's Newsday from a citizen defending the county plan to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to create infrastructure in order to keep young people here on the island.  To quote the letter writer:

"Long Island has groundwater protection issues, high taxes, overcrowded roads, aging infrastructure and many other problems.  These are not impediments to progress, but opportunities for job creation, development of new industries and innovation".

They forgot to add high energy costs but I suppose that could be added to "many other problems".  I think this writer has been dipping into the medical marijuana before it has been legalized.  So high taxes and overcrowded roads are not impediments to job creation and new industries?  Any corporate CEO will tell you they avoid areas with those problems.  On the bright side, the $300+ million they want to spend will create a lot of temporary union construction jobs.  Meanwhile the young adults will pack their bags and head south before the ink is dry on their diploma.

The writer of this article is typical of many of the voters here.  Spend, spend, spend and all will be right with the world.  Tell that to Greece and Puerto Rico.

My wife runs a small business and inquired about StartUp NY, etc...it's all bullshit. The commercials paint this picture of a business friendly environment, but it just doesn't exist. The benefits the program claims to extend to start up businesses either are unobtainable for 95% of businesses or there are so many hoops to jump through it's impossible.

It's a complete load of bullshit, designed not to help business but rather to get NYers to vote for Andy boy.

The COO of Corning said NY is not only not on anybody's short list, NY isn't even on the list.
