That's because it's almost 2007 and not 1977 Dan..er...acman. I'm gonna pay for that.

So when are you going to get on the "ham" wagon? The rules have recently changed and you can test for General and above without having to take the Morse Code test any longer. This is the best time to go for your license!

The best place to get a "good" antenna for your CB is going to be online. That's also going to be the cheapest place to get it. A couple of things though...what kind of CB are you going to run? Got sideband? What kind of mount are you going to use? Where on the vehicle are you going to mount it?

The Wilson brand of antennas have always worked well for me.  I think they're the best mass-produced factory made antennas on the market.

So your telling me all the truck drivers have switched over to ham

So when are you going to get on the "ham" wagon?
When i see them do what i want them to do in person ........ i don't need another expensive ass hobby that's really not going to benifit me

I know but to be honest seems to me like a lot of the HAM's aint my kind of people to be honest....... just don't see myself fitting in..... and nobody in my ao has them and most aren't going to spend the cash it cost or invest the time which is a shame but it don't do me a lot of good if i'm the only one with one
If i could find a bad ass HT that does marine(plus the other freq's) which i can use legaly...... and i know some people that have mobiles in their big boats... that might get me more interested

then get you one of those liner(?) signal boosters.

I don't know what kind of antena I've got, it about 3 1/2' and wrapped in copper wire, works pretty good for what I need.

be sure to watch the power ratings on them if you're putting any "extra" power through them.

I know nothing about these, however, a guy I work with is related to someone who owns a CB shop, so I may be able to get a deal if you're interested.

10-4 there, good buddy! Gotta stay hooked up to avoid them smokies! Never did like them turning on there bubble gum lights on me.
Just find you a good place in the rockin' chair between two of them eighteen wheelers and smokey won't bother you.
I'm going 10-8 here in a little bit
Anyway, if I still have your 10-20, I'll give you a CB radio with an antenna. If you want an 8 ft whip, I'll give you that too. Biut I ain't gonna ship that!
Seriously, I think I still have a magnetic base antenna, and a gutter clamp antenna for CB radios besides an old 23 channel CB you can have if you want it. The 8 ft steel whip I dumped at the farm. I'll see if it still there and you can have it.
Shrek is right - I was big on CB radios in the late 70s. I had a SSB with 100 watt linear. It got me QSL cards from as far away as Puerto Rico. Even used the SSB/linera/steel whip on top of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs one summer!
ACman, you can have 'em if you want 'em.

do you really think someone like me's going to turn down free stuff

I'll dig up what I have and send it to you! I've still got boxes of stuff from moving two years ago I haven't opened. I know I didn't give the CBs away. So there somewhere!
The 8' steel whip is pretty much unshippable but would work like a champ on a pickup. I had it mounted on the center of a propane tank in my truck bed and it worked great! I used it once on one of my ATVs in NM riding. You know, put on an orange flag...
Other than that, I've no use for any of that stuff. The antenna is up on the farm, laying next to extra T-posts and wire last time I looked.
You'll have to come get that if I find it!
