Ok, so I just got the rest of the parts together for my budget rifle build. I want to see if anyone else can build one this cheap. I will post pics later today. Here is the breakdown of what I have in it.

CMMG lower-$90
DPMS parts kit-$40
Colt /Bushy upper-$340

Total-$470

I also added a magpul grip and Knights M5 rail. The grip cost me $35 and the M5 was free. I will test fire it later this week for accuracy. Who can build a cheaper/better rifle?

UTG Quad Rail $29
UTG Vertical Grip $9
Sure fire light and mount $75
Tru Glo mutli recticle red dot optic $75
Four Magpul Mags $50

BCG came with upper

I have a pile of mags

I got the Matech rear sight for $30

I had a complete A2 stock assembly in my junk drawer

I had the grip pod laying around the gun room

I guess we should add the cost of the rear sight into the build as it is needed to use the rifle.

I am searching for a deal on a scope for this badboy now!

WOW! Is this for a complete upper and complete lower? Were these hard finds?

I am looking to "build" or piece together an AR for under $600 starting with nothing.

Possible right?

Great thread.....

Funny how you decide to do something like an AR build because you get a barrel cheap.

I bought the barrel from uzitalk. $80 for a douglas heavy match, unfired.

I had a front sight, LPK parts from random other builds, flashhider and a few more bits and pieces laying around.

superior arms lower $80 - group buy
bushmaster upper $120 - EE
colt bcg $115 - EE
colt stock/buffter/tube $45 - friend
handguards $20 EE

Ended up reselling the colt BCG for $175 and buying a NIB no-name for $90 from a friend.

All up out of pocket cost < $450

This whole thread is proof that you can get a super nice rifle for less that $1,000 price range. Heck I could have stopped with mine at the sub $500 mark and just tossed in a rear sight and called it quits.

Building this was one of the funnest things I have done so far with guns and it is a little fun to search for things all over plus you meet a lot of new people.

my Ar pistol was similar in cost. $540

Call me nuts! But I just went and bought an Oly A3 target K16 for $650 in my grubby hands. I can't brag about Stag or Mega this or that but I've had no issues with it and the quality is pretty good for what I paid. 2nd is a build as a pistol using RRA items. What's funny is the mag release sticks on the RRA (new) but not on the Oly. It hangs at times after I push it to drop a mag. Oh and I believe you can get the Oly base carbine for almost $600 OTD.

Well, I had to go with what I could afford. I had several people on Snipershide tell me that the Super Sniper scopes are good. Not as good as a Leupold Mk4, Nightforce, IOR or S&B, but pretty good, especially for the money.
Until I can see a way to actually shoot somewhere past 200 yards, regularly, this will do and it's a lot better than the 1" Simmons I had when I got the rifle.
I really do need to buy a Mil Dot Master soon though.
When I can justify a better scope I will eb able to sell this one for close to what I have in it. They are actually pretty good scopes. I read an article that they are that inexpensive because SWFA gets them direct and if they went through all the middlemen the others do they would be an $800.00 scope. I have my doubts about that but they are good glass for the price.

I know, Jim, I was just giving you a hard time. I won a SS at the TacPro match, and I traded it for a Weaver 24x target scope.

If we are ever at the range at the same time I'll let ya play with my new toy. The first time I shot it I had to use that old Simmon's and a crappy set of rings. I managed a .52" 5 round group at 100 yards, then a 1.019" 10 round group at 200 yards.
If I ever get time to get this new setup sighted in it should really shine.

Giving me a hard time? I thought ya'll weren't allowed a sense of humor.

I bought a Kimber Longmaster Classic with a Leupold scope and reloading equipment for a total of $900. I sold the rifle for $1000, the scope for $700, and kept the reloading equipment.

I'm building a new top-shelf middy out of stuff from Spike's, Troy, Noveske, WOA, Y/M, and Magpul for a total of $1200 dollars. The Kimber had been a .223, so I already have reloading dies.

Total cost of build: $400 for the rifle and a full set of reloading equipment to go with it.
