Hey, it's supposed to be near 40 next Saturday (the 10th), and only 5 mph wind. Lets head out and do some shooting.

Maybe we should try to pick up some steel poppers? Lets talk about this. Has anyone actually called MGM to see if we can just drive over and pick some up?

And I can check out that upper.

MGM was OK with picking up targets but he said they are outta there by 3:30? or something so it has been impossible for me to make it.

That, coupled with the fact that I am incuring "major" expenditures in the "non-firearm" catagory.
prenatal care, Emilys birthday, Xmas, ect. The full list would bring you to tears.

He did say a 10% discount off internet prices but be sure to ask.

I did come across 20 or so pcs. of cardboard for targets pre-perforated in squares about 2.5'

They should be good for zeroing in at distance.

...oh and I am on call this week(end) so shooting is not likely for me.

ETA: the 10th should be good
Link Posted: 12/2/2005 8:22:05 PM EDT
10th probably a no go for me Some friends of mine are going to take me and my wife to Brundage to go skiing/snowboarding for the first time ever. Hopefully I wont break anything important...like my trigger finger

I might be able to go on the 17th though. About targets: I'm flexible with what you guys want to do. Whatever the total cost is I'll pay my portion no problem. Where exactly is this MGM place? Nampa?

Got the official email! My lower has been shipped, hopefully Boise Gun will have it early next week (Mon, or Tues)

Spiff: You still wanting that upper?
Link Posted: 12/2/2005 9:08:28 PM EDT
You're gonna have a blast Snowboarding. The last time I went, I had been skiing recently and it was hard to get used to not having both feet pointing straight ahead. But you find the sweet spot and the next thing you know, you're heading for the black diamond runs

Something about flying throught the air is exhilarating... probably the "oh my.. I'm way too high, this is gonna hurt if I don't stick the landing" thoughts going through you head.

...and then when you don't stick the landing, It doesn't hurt that bad, BUT you see sky, snow, sky, snow sky and snow is being rammed up your jacket and down your pants, then you get up and try to "unpack" while the people on the lifts are clapping, aahhh, good times
Link Posted: 12/2/2005 9:31:33 PM EDT
Not sure where MGM is exactly but it's in Nampa. When I bought my targets they ran them into town for me (Mike Gibson was coming into town for another reason).

I can probably get off work early next week and get some targets.

Heh, when I got scuba certified, I had something similiar happen. Move, Close to freezing water washes down the back. Move again, more freezing water washes down back. We were down in Hagerman valley, just off the snake river... watching large chunks of ice going down the river. God it was cold.

Hey guys! Sorry I have been so out of touch lately, been really busy. I am in dire need of shooting weapons. I would love to come out with you guys on the 10th. I still have all that ammo that I picked up at Cabela's in SLC.
Link Posted: 12/3/2005 1:29:24 PM EDT
BiggSlic! We thought you got into a fist fight with an elk, never to be heard from again

Good to see you back.

I may be able to go shooting on the 10th. I think we're postponing our snowboarding trip to January so we can have some money to go back to Nebraska for Christmas.

.

We'd have the whole place to ourselves for sure, and ya know what that means....

<BR>

1000yrd shots with the Garand and M1A!!!!!!!!!!
Link Posted: 12/3/2005 7:47:05 PM EDT
F-n-A!

I'd be up for some long shots with the 300WSM and maybe get some 69ers for the AR. I've been there when guys were set up just off the road shooting over the east end of the reservior, 500 to 700 easy.

really need that lazer rangefinder now

MGM is on karcher past the lake turnoff, almost to marsing

Now it would be cool to try that....off-handed!! Not sure if the Garand is up those distances, but the M1A would probably do ok.

Yup, for those ranges we'd need some heavy bullets.

So what twist is everyone using on their AR's? My barrel is 1:9. It will stabalize 69'ers and maybe a few grains higher, but thats about it. Anyone using a 1:7?

I'll call MGM and check everything out, make sure they still have targets, and I'll run over this week some time.

Orchard is still the place.

Is 10am still ok with everyone? Or do we want to push it back a bit.

Works for me.

Tripwire, good to hear from you. I had stopped sending the IM's to everybody because I usually got no response. Glad to hear your alive...I wonder sometimes about people that just vanish.

Spiff: I have two uppers with 1:9 and one with 1:7.

10 works for me...unless ya'll want to go earlier!
Link Posted: 12/4/2005 5:40:06 PM EDT
Tripwire,

Have you been out with us before? sorry I have a mind like a sieve. I'd be all over that RAS if it was a carbine length.

My 6721 is 1/9 so if sportsmans would restock their Blackhills I'd get some heavy match 69's. Boise Gun had some Hornady TAP 75's a while back. It'd be interesting to try some of those also.

My Xmas wish list here

That bad boy will take you out to 1500yds
Link Posted: 12/4/2005 6:53:52 PM EDT
I will try to make it, but I will be late.
Link Posted: 12/4/2005 7:16:38 PM EDT
Sweet, looks like we'll have a good sized group out there.

Did you guys see this? 14 minutes of ass kicking via chopper!

I was rather surprised to see that. It must be the initial positioning of the tail fins on the missile that causes them to corkscrew out and then zoom in on the target.

Mine is a 1:8 20" barrel. I want to put together a light, 1:9... maybe 18" barrel upper some time this year. My upper is nice and all, but it weighs a freaking ton. :-(

Nope, this will be my first time out with you guys. Yep, ive had three people tell me that! I would have sold the RAS months ago if it was the short version. Im not all that eager to sell it online, figured maybe one of you guys would be interested. If not ill just use it on a future build.

My Bushmaster is 1/9 also, I thought 75's were a tad bit too heavy though? Would be nice for those long shots.

Let me know if you need a 12" FF RAS for that new upper! (seriously it's a sweet deal)
Link Posted: 12/5/2005 6:40:31 PM EDT
Ryfters got a JP FF already. Sweet but no rails. I'll probably get a box of the TAP 75s just for giggles, but the Blackhills is a better buy I think.
Link Posted: 12/5/2005 6:43:26 PM EDT
I think Spiff will want your rail once he buys my 20"er!

I'll bring the $$ Saturday and if I like the upper we'll do some commerce. Not sure if I want to put a rail system on it. As it is I'm going to have to replace the upper receiver. Anyone want to buy an A2 upper receiver?

Also, I'm going to try to get over to MGM Wednesday. I have meetings all afternoon tomorrow at work (DAMN!!) so tomorrow's out. I want to get them asap so we can tell for sure what to put them on. Does anyone have any wooden saw horses?

Also I need to fix my 4th target stand, I repaired 3 of them by putting on new backing, but the 4th is shot to pieces.

Holy shit!! My wife just walked out while I was typing the above and give me what I think is Egg Nog (Yum!!). So I took a big swig, yeah, it's Egg Nog all right, laced with 12% Rum. Not used to that....kind of tasty though.

Anyone got the # for the gun shop on garrity I think it's Alpha Omega. They always have mega AKs ect at the gun show. I wanna call and see if they have heavy .223. Nobody in boise seems to have any.
Link Posted: 12/6/2005 6:21:46 PM EDT
I had probably 3 of their flyers but cant seem to find any of 'em. By heavy .223 are you talking ammo in bulk or a heavy barrel for an AR?
Link Posted: 12/6/2005 6:38:40 PM EDT
Heh, that's funny. I should be more specific....or you need to work on that mind reading

68, 69, 75 grain ammo

It does look like fun, I'll get my hands on the license and weapon, if you promise to supply ammo all the time.
Link Posted: 12/6/2005 7:25:01 PM EDT
What color do you want on that A2 stock, black I presume?

luckypunk: D'oh, I should've known...damn Corona's make me stupid.

Of course!! A "Black Rifle" must have a black stock!!

BTW, congrates on that raise, 40% is a heck of an increase.

ETA: Ordered me another JP trigger for that extra lower I have.....and another hammer.

Thanks spiff.

My yellowpages has something called alpha omega in nampa but when I called the # it was for channel 18?

congrats jollyroger, I'll have one in your favor.... but I'm celebrating with miller lite

Spiff: I might be persuaded to part with my A2 stock. I like it but my future building wants are collapsible related for now...until I build a sweet assed SPR!

I'm going to take off early tomorrow and pick up our steel targets. Looking forward to blasting away at them. Loaded up 275 rounds of .45 ACP 230 grain RN just to do it!! Not to mention my 9mm.
Link Posted: 12/6/2005 7:57:32 PM EDT
Sweet! With any luck my lower will actually get here ( it has been shipped) and hopefully my ammo will get here too.

I think with the $ from the upper I'm going to save for a .45, probably a 1911.

No, I will know tomorrow. It seems the people in Salt Lake don't know how to read a BGC.

Congrats on the raise and promotion!

Well, if all goes well, the stress will be gone in less than 12 hours. I need a some prayer right now.
