As many of you know, individuals from Boise Shooters, PWS, Impact Guns, Gem-Tech, Tactical Solutions and others performed a cleanup of a couple local shooting areas in the desert near Boise.

We were planning to start organizing the effort again this year when I was contacted by a representative from the Golden Eagle Audubon Society stating that they were going to be doing a large scale cleanup as part of the Earth Fest activities on April 19th, 2008 and wanted to know if we would like to participate.

Being able to be involved in the cleanup effort while not having to plan and organize it intrigued me very much, so I thought it sounded like a plan.

So – we are gathering volunteers to assist in this cleanup effort.  There are 5 zones in the Black’s Creek Reservoir project area.  We will be in charge of zone 5, which is essentially where we cleaned up last year.  (see attached map).

Volunteers can sign up by going to www.idahoearthfest.org/id12.html, or by simply emailing me your name and such I will sign up as a group with all of our names.

The clean up is scheduled for the 19th of April beginning at approximately 10am and will last for 2 to 3 hours.  There will be water, toilets, hand washing stations, etc.  At this time we do not plan on serving any meal, but this could change.

The unfortunate truth to it all is that when people see trash, they think that they can leave trash as well.  What we have noticed is that the more trash an area has, the more people will come and dump trash.  It is truly exponential in the worse possible way.

When a toilet is found lying in the desert with bullet holes in it, shooters in general are blamed - when like many other stereotypical problems, it is only the assholes that get noticed.

I've added a poll in an effort to get an accurate headcount for volunteers.  As I have posted this on multiple boards, please only answer one of the polls as to not throw off my very non-scientific numbers.

So far I count about 10 to 15 people total.  I know there are several people that don't post here that are going to come - just other industry people.  So I am thinking we will have at least 25 people...

I would like to remind – or perhaps invite – everyone that can make it to attend the Saturday morning cleanup effort near Black’s Creek Reservoir, East of Boise.

Be sure and bring your work gloves, water, and anything else you might need.  If you have a favorite rake, bring that as well, but there will be rakes on site along with trash bags and such.

We are meeting just off the road near the cleanup area, which is ½ mile West of the Rail Road tracks on Kuna Mora road. (Often referred to as Black’s Creek Road).

Take I-84 East Bound to the Blacks Creek exit.  Turn right on Kuna Mora Road and travel 2 miles – we will be parking on the right hand side of the road.  

We hope to see people arriving around 10 – 10:30am so we can get a good stab at this project.
