What restaurant serves the best cabrito in the Beaumont area?  I don't have a good source for it at this time and it sure is good stuff.

what the hell is cabrito?

They sell real Mexican down in the Avenues here but I wouldn't advise venturing down there at night...

De Buey Y Vaca specifically at the corner of Avenue E and College use to sell some really good food from what I understand.

It is basically goat.  But for the longer answer look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabrito.  I like it a lot but you have to find it at mostly "real" Mexican places.

Oh ok never heard the real name for it. Yeah I'd try one of the real places down in the Avenues and not Elena's they aren't even good Tex-Mex. Mercado's might very well sell it also or somewhere down in PA. Mercados is a grocery store though right on the corner of Avenue C and College.

El Paso. I haven't had good barbecued cabrito since I was a kid back there.

South Houston, just hit any of the roach coaches down there.
You may be playing russian roulette as far as cleanliness and sanitation, but I guarantee you can find some damn good cabrito.....

+1

SE Texas isn't really known for it's mexican food.  It has some tex-mex, but only a relatively small hispanic community (considering it's in TX).  You want awesome cajun, vietnamese, BBQ, or fresh seafood?  No prob, real mexican food?  Sorry

ETA: Just texted one of my buds still living in SE Texas.  He works with 3-4 hispanic guys that relocated there for work after Hurricane Rita.  According to them, don't waste your time in beaumont, just drive towards houston.

I've got to agree that Chaba's is great.  I also like the Vietnamese Pho place on College called Four Seasons.  I'm also looking for more Vietnamese places.  Any suggestions?
