The suspect lot that had apparently blown up a gun has been found to have cracks in the casings...

We have found cracked casings in two lots.

The lots bear these head stamps on the cases:

 * 3 10 52 and * 3 10 53...

Watch what you put in your gun!

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to crack open my case and check for similar headstamps. My CZ-52 is tough, but not indestructable.

ETA: Just opened up the can. Starting from "12 o'clock" position, I have a star, 10, 53, and 3.  I only pulled one out, and it has a crack up by the case neck. Is it all the ammo in these lots, or just the ones with damaged case necks that are looking bad??

I looked at the information provided, and it says that the 52 stuff is the known problem, and there are some reports of the 53 stuff being okay, but the author says he is still skeptical. I just won't be shooting any for a while, but I hope we get more information on this.

Some of the rounds are cracked and others are not.
Just be careful when loading. The cracks sometimes are invisible until the light shines on them just right.

Split necks are common with most of the surplus 7.62x25 esp with the Czech, Bulgarian and Yugoslavian. I've even had the Romanian stuff split necks & cases.

Affirmative.  It's harder to find surp 7.62x25 that isn't split than is.  That's just the way the commies, fifty years ago, made their ammo, and for all intents and purposes, it shoots fine - minute of soldier.

Havn't run into any split cases with the Romanian, but either the chamber on my CZ52 or the ammo is way out of spec. Every once and a while she'll jam up tight with a round that is a wee bit too tight in the chamber. When I used a Wolff spring with it, it was so tight I had to use the mallet. Talk about freaky(good thing I had my vice at the range...).
