Put in your ZIP code - Project Vote Smart

Also, check your local (city/county) paper for a voter's guide. Both of my paper's had their guide out in the current edition.

Do you know who you support that you can actually vote for?  It's nice that you hate Harry and Nancy, but they won't be on your ballot any more than Michelle Bachmann will.  Seems like common sense that if you plan to vote, you ought to at least know which district you live in.

Get defensive about it all you want, but ranting and cursing won't make you a more intelligent or better informed voter.....

i bet you cant list every candidate / judge / sheriff / congressman / congresswoman / senator / clerk / etc etc etc in your district without google searching.

and google searching for the answers to prove me wrong, doesnt make you a more informed voter.

i sincerely apologize to you. I am sorry that i have so much shit going on in my life, that i dont know every single thing going on around me. you know, running a business, fixing things around the house, getting ready for hunting and the upcoming winter... hell, i bought my new truck 6 weeks ago and still dont know the 5 digit code for the lock buttons on the drivers door yet. i guess im a uninformed truck owner too.

you win. high five.

Neither will belittling them on a public form because they didn't meet your personal standard. How are you helping the situation again? As far I can tell the only time limit imposed on making your decision is election day. Maybe if we all knew we would labeled ignorant dumbasses, we would have had our shit together months ago like you!

I might throw out a joke at someone elses expense here from time to time, but usually its someone i sorta know, who has a sense of humor.

what i try not to do is pick wars or insult other Hometown forum members. you never know when you might see that person at a gunshow  / swap meet / get together. id prefer not to look like an asshole when it comes time to meet people here face to face.

My comments were not meant as a joke, nor to "pick a war" with you - they are an honest criticism of your post.  You seem like a guy who is easily offended and does not handle criticism well(hence the veiled threat of "never know when you might see that person", as an example) , so I'll try to keep this short and inoffensive.

Lots of people like to talk on the internet about politics and complain about things that they don't like, but are not willing to do anything more than that.  Voting in this country is a right that was hard-earned by our forefathers and many others after them.  It's also a right that few around the world enjoy.  I find it offensive when people are unwilling or just too lazy to take the time to inform themselves on the process, and on their responsibilities as a US citizen to do their part to elect the right candidates.  I can only assume that you will be voting for everyone on the ballot with an "R" behind their name?  That strategy should be fine this time around, and certainly can't be any worse than the guys we have now, but there are some pretty bad Republican candidates at times as well.  Also, other than party affiliation,  how are you really any different from the hordes of Obama supporters who showed up 2 years ago to vote all "D"s?  In my opinion, the country would be better off if those who don't pay attention would stay home and leave the voting to those who do.

You mention that I could find out all of my local candidates with a quick google search - well, so could you.  Did you just move to IGH?  If not, I've got to think you have had a little time at some point down the line to do a little homework.  Are people supposed to be impressed with your ignorance?  Like I stated earlier, everyone has stuff going on in their life.  I guess you just have to decide what's important to you.  Along with all of your work, fixing things and getting ready for stuff you've also managed to crank out over 12,000  posts on an internet gun forum in the last few years so it would seem you have SOME free time...

These are just my observations, and my questions above are meant as rhetorical only.  I don't need any response to them and have no desire to get into a pissing contest with you.  You can consider them or ignore them as you see fit - after all, it's only the internet...

Not sure if you noticed, erud, but you really are not helping.

IMHO a little less criticism and prostlyetizing and more helping these guys get up to speed would be beneficial. Not everyone is a political junkie, and when one owns, runs and labors at one's own business they may not have all the time in the world to keep up.

Greetings,

Secretary of state's website is also helpful.  Takes a little navigating though.  SOS
Please vote against the asshat with his mug at the top of the page.

whatever any of you do when you walk into the polling place on the 2nd - don't look confused and ask the election judge in broken english "Who do I vote for."  or "I was told to come here and vote, who do I vote for?"  as I witnessed in '08.  If you think this may occur please stay home.

Guys, no need to fight about this, but erud is right.  You should be more informed about who your US Senator, Congressional representative, State Senator and State House Rep is.  That's 4 people.  As far as everyone else goes, bring your NRA-ILA fact sheet with to the polls.  Not much else to really know, is there?

If you leave your ballot blank for the judges, conservation officers, school board, etc.... your votes for whoever you DO fill in are still counted

At least, they are counted in theory...unless a judge decides to throw out your ballot.

There are tons of Tarryl Clark signs in my neighborhood.  There is so much hatred for Bachmann that they put those signs up everywhere....then again, maybe they are planning on going to Washington County to vote twice.  It worked in 08.

Thats crazy. I was just talking to my next door neighbor today about the fact that we hadn't seen one sign for "Taxing Tarryl Clark" in St Micheal or the surrounding area.
Same thing with Dayton. I have to drive all the way to Minneapolis before I see a Dayton yard sign.

NRA-ILA fact sheet is a start, and I agree being more informed is important. Example: NRA-ILA says "B+ rated" Oberstar gets their nod in MN-8 over "AQ rated" Chip Cravaack. Bull shit! Oberstar is the communist who voted with Pelosi every time and wants to call every puddle in your yard "under federal regulation" decimating private property rights and state soverignty by removing the word "Navagable" from the clean water act. His opponent, the Republican endorsed Chip Cravaack, is a retired US Naval Aviator (Reached the rank of Captain, 0-6) .

If you live in MN-8, vote for Chip Cravaack and send Oberstar back home (which apparently is no longer in MN-8).

Note: AQ Rated means there is no voting history, but the candidate's answers to NRA's survey gets them and "A" if they are telling the truth.

I am. But I'm also a political junkie...I understand that others are not. I ask that other junkies offer the same patience and instruction to those folks who can't or don't have time to keep up. Being a rude dick and telling folks how they fail as an American for not knowing their representatives drives them to either not vote or vote the opposite of the asshole yelling at them about how they suck.
