I live just outside of Fairfax City, in Burke, and I'm looking to get into blackpowder shooting. The problem is, the NRA range doesn't allow muzzleloaders (not even with Pyrodex), and the Fairfax Rod and Gun Club costs mucho dinero to join. I know of no muzzleloader ranges locally (i. e. 20 minute drive or less from Burke/Fairfax City area). Is there such an animal, or will I have to suck it up and go far away?

Here's the link if you haven't already seen the post.

I'm pretty sure I've seen black powder being used at Clark Brothers here in Warrenton, VA.
You might call first to be sure. Nice covered outdoor range with 8 or 10 shooting positions. Goes
out to 100 yards.

Alexandria Chapter IWLA has a range here in North Stafford, about 35-40 minutes from you.  It's a 100 yd. range still in the works.  They've been refurbishing it for a while now and it looks pretty good.  It's private, $75 initiation fee and $75 a year.  I've seen people out there with BP.  Clark Brothers is so-so.  Facility is pretty good but you have to buy their ammo and targets to use the range.  Needless to say, they stick you on the ammo price.  Don't know how much it is for BP.  Hope that helps.  MJD

Do you have to buy your powder and shot from them?
To shoot regular guns, you have to buy their ammo, which keeps me from going there.
