Police: Teens Drive Stolen Van Into Gun Store
Church's Van Stolen For Second Time
POSTED: 11:01 a.m. CDT October 19, 2003
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Police say they caught two people who stole a church
van and tried to smash it into a gun store.
The associate pastor at Sagamore Hills Baptist Church said this is the
second time the van has been stolen in the past few years. Police said that
another stolen van was left in the parking lot of the church in place of the
church van.
Police believe that the two people involved in this crime spree stole the
first van, then ran out of gas, and, therefore, they stole the church van.
Police said it was a 17-year-old male and a teenage girl who drove the
stolen van to a gun store off Lancaster Avenue. The two tried to ram the van
through some concrete pillars and into the front door of the store. A police
officer saw the smash-and-grab attempt and the pair took off. After a chase
through Fort Worth, police arrested the suspects at a south Fort Worth car
wash.
The associate pastor says church members use that van on a daily basis. The
pastor said the van was insured and added that the church has a second van
they can use for transportation.
Meanwhile, the two people involved in this crime spree were in custody
Sunday morning.
