I will be in Reno this weekend and it will be my first time carrying in Nevada. I have a non resident permit through Arizona.

If I get stopped by an officer am I required to notify them I am carrying? Anything else I should know? Is it legal to carry in bars/casinos?

Thanks

There is no mandatory disclosure for carrying CCW in Nevada under Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS).

If you are ASKED if you are carrying by LE, then you must disclose (as per Statute).

Under NRS, you can be in an establishment that serves alcohol (or just under the influence) and you can consume alcoholic beverages as long as you are not .10 BAC or above (different NRS from the Vehicle Law of .08 BAC).

Operating a motor vehicle is .08 BAC and should not be confused with Firearm Possession BAC of the higher amount.

SO... If you are out bar hopping and carrying, and you are below .10 BAC and not the operator of a motor vehicle you are not violating NRS. BUT... .if you are .08 BAC or above while operating the motor vehicle you can be arrested for DUI while operating a motor vehicle, but you will not receive an addition charge for carrying.

I'm not an attorney, but the above is public knowledge.

BTW: I am in the middle of something right now, so I don't have time to post the exact Statute numbers.

Hope this helps.

Be Safe.

Joe

Since you are from out of state they may not know before stopping you, no need to volunteer, some cops become instant pricks when they know you have a CCW.
Pistol envy I guess.

Others here have had differing experiences, some claim they got a "Break" when volunteering they had a CCW.

I thought everyone knew, but I'm apparently not supposed to talk about it much per forum rules.
I manufacture guns and accessories, now concentrating on NFA items.
So I have to remain where I have reasonable access to machinist and supplies.
Still looking for a breakthrough product that will let me "retire" while there is still a point to it.

Thanks.

Now I know.

I'm in that camp.  In 20+ years of carrying in Vegas, I've been pulled over twice while carrying.  Both times I kept my hands on the steering wheel and informed them I was armed.  Neither one asked me to surrender my weapon, they simply requested that I move slowly when retreiving my license and registration.  They both treated me with great courtesy and let me go with warnings.  One was Highway Patrol and the other was NLVPD.  I don't know if they gave me breaks because of my voluntary information but, it sure didn't seem to hurt.

My experience was a little different.  I was pulled over by NHP and informed him I was armed.  He said "OK" and kind of looked at me with a "so what?" kind of look.  Not a look of concern at all.  It didn't get me out of the ticket either (damn it) but it was the lesser speeding deal that they can write you up for that doesn't go on your  DMV record.  This was in rural Lyon County, so your mileage may vary in the more populated areas.

I have been pulled over twice, on e as the driver and once as the passenger.

NHP was very nice and didn't seem to give a shit that I was carrying
Washoe Sheriff was a little more abrupt but professional and didn't ask me to disarm or anything

On the other hand we have my boss who got full on felony stopped for informing RPD that he was legally carrying a few years ago.

Only ever been in that situation twice. First was in AZ where I was a passenger and there was a gun in the glove box. Having to hand the firearm over to the cop and then having him take the gun and the driver(his gun) back to his car while he muzzle swept those of us  still in the car trying to figure out how to unload it was not an experience I cared to have repeated. When I was pulled over not too long ago here in NV I did not disclose. I expected the information to show up in the computer and the officer to ask(which I then would have answered truthfully) but he ended up letting me go without a word on it.

It only shows up automatically with certain agencies. Other agencies have to manually run you to get that info.
