It fits in the category of "non-lethal force" like pepper spray. If used in an "illegal" action like an assualt, it becomes a felony if I am not mistaken. Because you carry a legal handgun with a SDA permit, you CANNOT carry an Asp baton. or large blade. That is considered "lethal force" and is a felony.
Check your SDA manual. Under Title 21 *1278 - it lists deadly weapon or dangerous instrument used with the "intent' or "avowed purpose" of unlawfully injuring another person as a felony with a $5000 fine and 2 years in the joint if convicted.
I don't think the Tazor is considered a dangerous intrument or deadly weapon but people get sent to prison for popping other people with a paintball gun.
It all depends on how or where you use the Tazor!

I don't know of any regulations pertaining to stun guns in Oklahoma, as long as they are used for self defense. It's possible that there have been some laws enacted since I got out of law enforcement, and I haven't heard about.

I was thinking about keeping one here at the house. As a non lethal way to subdue the person/persons getting into my truck, 3 times so far.

If they're getting into your truck......I feel as if you should be fearing for your life, layin them out and callin the meat wagon to escort the carcasses off your property.

You might feel like doing it, but don't shoot at anyone trying to break into your vehicle, you would likely get to spend some time at the crossbar hotel, and that's not a hotel I would recommend!

1shott

If you were sleeping in your truck because you had to spray the house for bugs or something and some yahoo broke in your truck and tried to stab you it seems like you would be in the good.

You do have the right to defend yourself.

I'm not telling you to lay in wait but if you ever have to spray for bugs id be prepared to protect myself.

sure their legal 1shott, they wouldn't sell them if they wern't legal would they? taser inc. sells a civilian model of the X26 15amp LE model, think they call it the X26c, it has half the amps of the LE model and cost a K, plus theres classes offered at springlake vo tech for certification and proper usage, cost around $80, but FWIW don't take my advice on anything thats likly to cost you your ass if you use it, talk to a attorney, cause I would think that if you happened to catch the theif in the act and you shot him with a taser, it would be considered an act of aggression on your part and if it didn't cause you repercussion from your local PD, it would certainly open you up to civil liabilities, meaning the dude you tased would be driving your truck and living in your house after the settlement.

It is not on the prohibited weapon list. As others have stated it would be classified as a dangerous weapon but with proper usage ie self defense or using necessary and REASONABLE force to effect a citizens arrest I dont think you would have a problem. Civilly I would make sure I went to training.
One question though. Have you priced them?? They are all most $1000 plus $25 every time you pull the trigger.

Thanks guys.

I would just like to catch the bastards thats all. I dont keep anything of value in my truck anymore. you would think they would learn that by now.

Maybe I will get a baseball bat and just bust a few knee caps....I am a big guy and can swing a bat hard..

Ya that would be sweet....

I know for sure you can use a taser in OK to defend yourself just like pepper spray. I was certified on one about a year ago at our department. Two words "THEY HURT" I laid there and went aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh, could not move at all. I had one probe on my back shoulder blade and the other just above my belt line on my lower back.

For law enforcement a taser can be used pretty quickly on the use of force scale, and is even used before controling techniques.

Get one and use it. If you do though you need to be aware of how it fires and the max distance the probes will shoot. Plus they get farther away from each other the further the target is from you. If you are talking about the ones you can shoot.

The civilian modle you fire and it has a lower voltage and it sends a longer charge to the attacker so you can 'get away', but it cost about $400, too much to leave there on the ground.
