Really?  It was clear as a bell out here.  Even the wind died down.  Great show nothing like I was hoping for such as one right after another.  2-3 two in a rows but just a steady stream of about one every 4-5 minutes.  I was up until 2:30 watching the show.  I'm hurting this morning!

100% cloud cover here.
It would be. I have watched this every year and it never lived up to the hype.
Apparently, this year it did.

Well, maybe this might be a good thing -- anyone remember "The day of the Triffids"?

I heard about it.  Wasn't that about 1966?

The book was written in 1951 (even older than I am ....) by John Wyndham.
The film version was 1962 - not bad in terms of sticking reasonably closely to the book, and in being less artificial looking than a lot of Sci-Fi films at the time.

A lot of "24 hours later" was ripped off from this (zombies are new though).

The plot is basically that the hero is in hospital just after an eye operation, with bandaged eyes, complaining as he listens to the oohs and ahhs from people watching the biggest meteor display in recorded history. He wakes up the next morning and to find that everyone who watched the meteors is now blind.

Thats bad enough, because its 99.99% of the world population, but even worse there are now Triffids appearing - large, plants with poisonous stings and the ability to uproot themselves and move.

The hero + heroine that he picks up find other survivors, argue a lot, leave them to be eaten by the plants, end up being picked up by an army unit who have ideas of ruling the world...

The film *may* be worth watching if you can find it, but the book is a worthwhile read if you can find that.
