I know there are brokers you can hire to find you a car, I just dont know any. I want a gen3 or 4 4Runner that is low miles and pristine, plus one that no one has fubared. I have no idea where to look and no dealer I can find has anything like it. Budget is 10k give or take, whatever I get for my 06scion.

Do you just not want to look for it? Craiglist (Regionally) and ebay are great places to start.

Try CarMax.  They have a nationwide search and will only stock cars in great shape with lots of pictures.

+1. Most brokers just go to the auction and buy the car without test drive and you can't test drive the car at the auction anyway. Most of the cars at the auction are either repo or junk(wrecked/bad shape). If you find the 4Runner you like take the truck to your regular technician and let him check out the truck.

I worked there when I was 17 for two weeks as a porter, I got some feelings of shady dealings and left post haste.

Still, the broker is going to tack on a minimum of $500-$1000 for their time and "expertise". Do you want 5% or 10% of your budget going to overhead?
