I lived there for 5 years and still have alot of friends on the east side and west side.

I didn't own my rifle till i moved to Ohio, but i wish i had had a chance to go out into the desert to shoot while i was there.

Yeah, there is lots of empty space around El Paso. We are also home to one of the best gun ranges in the country. The Ft. Bliss Rod and Gun Club. It is probably one of the very few gun ranges that has a bar in the club house.
Don't forget to stop at Chicos while you are there!
