I read onlne today that the simplified deer season regs are in the senate right now, and while the zone 4 stuff was tossed out, it sounds like the some of the licensing and legal caliber changes were still alive.

Anyone heard anything new?

Here is an email message I got this morning from the DNR's legislative guy...  I left off last names...

Ray the language is currently in both sides of the game and fish bill. At this point it appears likely that is should pass but anything can still happen.

Thanks!

Bob

Hi Bob,

What is the status of the proposed rule changes for legal calibers for deer hunting?

Thanks,

Ray

The link hasn't been updated since 11/2/07.  I know that .223 was illegal.  But I remember seeing that was changed not too long ago.  I'll look for the DNR regs about caliber change.

ETA: can't find any official news release from the DNR site.  Oh well, just have to keep on looking at the site in the next coming months, as hunting season draws near.
