Anyone in the So Cal area? I'm considering buying my first handgun and hopefully there's someone out there that could point me out to reputable stores, people or any deals in the area. Thanks! I look forward to meeting everyone here!

SoCal is ia pretty broad description, that could be anywhere from San Diego to just below Fresno. What area?
Yes, please be more specific. It will make it easier for us to help out.

Hey foogoo,
Welcome to the site. I think I am the only one way down south (Imperial Beach/Coronado area). Where are you located? Cause like Treetop said, SD is damn big. Let us know if we can help. |
Los Angeles here (UCLA, specifically). Also in Orange County. IM with questions....
I was born in Inglewood, grew up in Torrance, lived a few places in Ventura County (Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Newbury Park, Ojai, and Ventura) as well as quite a few places in the San Fernando Valley (Encino, Woodland Hills, North Hollywood, Reseda, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Northridge, Chatsworth) and some other LA County locations (Landcaster, Palmdale). I've also lived in Hollywood and on Venice Beach.
I guess I've moved a lot. I haven't lived in California for over 3 years, but if you let us know what you're looking for I'll bet someone here can point you in the right direction. |

Sorry guys! I'm specifically in the SGV area near Pasadena and UCLA!
In Pasadena, you have Turners (www.turners.com) or you can hit up North Hollywood if you near UCLA and goto LA Guns (www.laguns.com. You can also go a little north on the 5 freeway to Oak Tree Gun Club (www.oaktreegunclub.com - just south of Santa Clarita)and try many handguns before you buy them.
Hope that helps! |
I checked out the LA Guns site and looks pretty awesome! I never heard of Oak Tree before either and looks like it'll be worth the drive. |
Try the LA Gun Club in downtown LA, near 6th and Alameda. 1375 E. 6th St. (213 612 0931). It's about ten minutes south of Pasadena. It's a 25 meter indoor range, and they have probably 200 pistols to choose from.
Cheers |

Grew up in a small town on the edge of San Bernardino (murder capital and smog capital, yay...) and now I live more in the mountains in a small little place called Yucaipa.
Yucaipa's a cozy little town. I went to Crafton Hills College. |

Hey, I'm down in San Diego and haven't been up in LA for a while, but I used to go to a shop called
Stevenson Gun Country (818) 845-6015 1313 W Magnolia Blvd. Burbank, CA Close to Pasadena, and if he's still working there, ask for Aristotle. He knows just about everything that there is to know, and cool to boot. If he's still working there, he'll know how to get you started! |

Just to the south (about 8-9 miles) of UCLA is Culver City, and a gun store, Martin B Retting. So, if you're at UCLA, just take the 405 and get off at Washington. Martin B Retting is just East of Sepulveda (so you can also take Sepulveda or Overland south) Martin B. Retting, Inc. 11029 Washington Blvd. Culver City, CA 90232 310-837-2412 http://www.retting.com There is a Turner's in the south bay area at Hawthorne and Artesia, too. |

San Diego here. Currently in Escondido. Planning to move to Dulzura.
Too bad it is getting overrun with drugs, angst ridden promiscuous teenagers, and illegal immigrants. Still far better than a lot of other local areas, just sad to see it going in the same direction. |

Living in SoCal tends to be a real bummer, aside from the fact that every other rifle is considered an Assault Rifle, you can only legally get about 2% of the hand guns on the market. Stupid safety test registration. I bet if they returned the firearms after the test, 90% of the companies who don't apply would turn around and submit their handguns. It's a big difference between losing a whole gun, and just replacing any parts that are cosmetically damaged.
On a sidenote, anyone been/go to a shooting range called West End Gun Club that has it's range in the area of the San Bernardino Nation Forest around the 215? I am in dire need of a good range in the Yucaipa area, and this seems like the best. Any comments that are good or bad about it? I would go check it out myself, but a 40-45 minute drive just to look through the gate, which is of a 80 acre range so I might not even see anything, is a bit extreme especially with gas prices the way that they are. |
