It seems some members would be interested in shooting a three gun match. I think it is a great idea. Tri County is shooting one on the last Sunday of this month and again on Sept. 11. If any of you are intested in trying this please let me know. We could meet in Ottawa and head up in the morning. If you went once you would be hooked. Maybe I could also set something up around here for people to try that would be a little more informal. Depending on interest I might have a place where we could go and set up our own Arfcom match. What do you think!!!

Hell yeah, I'm up for 3 gun. Ottawa is out of my way. though. I'll be there with some of my regular shooting buddies. Last time I was there, I met "stopper". Hope to see some more of you guys make it.

What are the 3 courses like? I know there are pistol, carbine/rifle, and CQB stages.

What are the rules and whatnot?

Just by chance, sleepercaprice and I got got squadded up last month.
Would be nice to get enough arfcommers together to make a full squad.

It was really really HOT.

No slugs last month, all birdshot.  There were some pistol targets that were out farther than some guys were apparently used to (not to mention they had to be shot prone).  I saw some guys that usually blow through stages, spend an agonizingly long time shooting at just a few targets.   Every month the stages are different, so you never know what you'll run into.

I personally did so-so on pistol, pretty good on rifle, and had trouble getting my 1187 to cycle 100%.  Found out that if you place the muzzle of an AR on the head of an IPSC target, it'll blow it right off.    It was a great time overall.  Lots of good guys to shoot with.  As always it's a great way to work with your equipment to see what works well and what doesn't.

Anyone else going out Sunday???

The 3 gun is usually over by 2:30 or so.
I think the match at Howell is IDPA. Dave usually puts on a good shoot.

The Howell's IDPA crew will be at the tri-county 3-gun shoot on Sunday.

Yes, it is an IDPA match, but we all (at least so's and scorekeepers) are IPSC fans too.

This would be my 1st match if I can make it so I have a few questions:

How long of a drive is it from the western burbs of Chicago (2+hrs right?)
What time should I show up?
What are the total fees / costs, etc?
What ammo should I bring for shotgun this time out?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

I'm going to try and make it out, and bring my dad too.  I've done pistol only IPSC, but never three gun.

I see they offer pistol + rifle, that's probably what I'll do.  From what I've read of the rules for the rifle, it is less restricted about equipment, e.g. I can put magazines in my pockets as opposed to having holders on my belt, etc.

All I really need is a rifle, a sling, ammo, and some mags right?

You won't need a sling.  You uncase your rifle on the line right before you shoot, and case back up as soon as you're done.  As for mag carriers/pouches, they are handy but by no means required.  For your first time out, a rifle, mags, and ammo should be fine.

Can we get there later than 8am (getting up at 5am on a Sunday hurts...)  lol

If you go later, you'll miss squading and it becomes a pain in the ass to try to catch up. You're best off to get there on time and shoot through the whole match with your squad.

Cool, I'm there.  Is there a rifle+pistol option for this one?  I saw they had that for other events.
