I got some "use it or lose it" vacation time coming up quick.
I was thinking of heading to the Shreveport-Bossier City area and
check out the casinos.
Does anyone have any favorite places to go?
Anywhere not to go?

grumpy429 is spot on.

Casinos exist for the sole purpose of taking your money.

If you enjoy gambling, do it somewhere the odds are stacked in your favor.

Only suckers gamble when the odds are stacked against them as bad as they are at casinos.

More fun is seeing how much free alcohol you can get from them before they boot you out.  I can usually get about $25 worth of booze for a $10 roll of quarters before they ask me to leave the premises.

Yep!   Play the pennie slots and get sloppy drunk, you might even win a little.

I think the El Dorado is nicer, but the Horseshoe has better food.

We ended up staying at Sam's Town - the room was nice but the casino was sucking money out of my wallet too fast. The drink service was plain awful, which made it even worse.

We ended up playing at the El Dorado.  I made up for most of my losses there playing some craps and the wife won a ton at the roulette wheel. (I made her leave before she
lost it all)  I think the El Dorado's slots were set to pay back a couple of percentage points higher than Sam's Town and the drinks were plentiful and served by some nice eye candy.

I didn't get to check out Binion's or Boomtown since we were only there for one night.

All in all, we had a good time. We came out a little ahead and most of all, we had fun.

That is one hell of a boring drive once you get past Beaumont. Driving north on 96 is
like driving through a long, long tunnel.  Nothing but road and pine trees for miles.

Until a deer jumps out in front of you and you cream bambi going 75 in the middle of nowhere

My cousin is the head of security for the Lake Charles Louisiana Casino, the L'Auberge du Lac. (french for the lodge on the lake) It is, by far, the nicest Casino in the South!!!
www.ldlcasino.com/

Not only is this more of a resort than a simple riverboat casino, it is on a beautiful golf course with the nicest pool area I have ever seen. They have the best filet I have ever tasted (and I travel allot, seeking out good steaks) at the Snake River grill.

The pool and golf are nice, at the pool, you can get an intertube, and they have this artificial flowing river that lets you just float around the property and when you want a drink, just paddle over towards one of the bars.

Now, I am VERY good friends with Jim Clark's head 1911 pistol smith, and if you decide to go gambling in Bossier be sure to go there. Check out their gator AR's, I don’t think you will find a more accurate, well equipped AR for $1000 anywhere. Also, get them to show you a millennium meltdown 1911, it’s awe-inspiring.

Was just there over the 4th of July weekend.  I like the old Island of Capri as they have a very good RV park for my motor home.  The race track has some pretty good penny slots.  The Eldarado is nice

But again, they are all just river boats in a town riddled w/crime due to all the Katrina evacuees. The L'barge Du-Lac is actually a resort on one of the nicest golf courses I have ever seen.

Additionally, the riverboat casino's in Shreveport/Bossier are largely over-crowded and the table limits are a bit higher.

I played $5 roulette four HOURS and got a free filet at the Jack Daniels Grill, and drank enough jack-and-cokes to call it a night.

Trust me, if you want to go gamble, go to Lake Charles, even in Vegas, it would be a 3-4 star hotel, there is nothing like it anywhere else in Louisiana.

In Shreveport/Bossier, there is NOTHING to do but gamble, that's it... in Lake Charles however, is a different experience, more like a vacation.

I grew up there.  My favorite place is (or was) Hollywood.  I play the slots because I'm cheap, that and the bar is right there and has easy access.  If you sit down at the bar, there are video poker machines built right in the bar.  Chill out, order drinks and watch the skirts go by.

Your best odds are in Bossier, and not in the shitport casinos... just an FYI.
Actually a much more hospitable environment altogether.
