Next week I will be en route to Louisville for NRA Annual Meetings.  Looking for any recommendations for good gun shops close to 64 or in the Lexington or Louisville areas worth checking out.

(I have been to Knob Creek, really just looking for anything to check out along the way)

Thanks in advance.

depends on what kinds of guns you like? Expensive shotguns, evil black rifles (of course if you are on these boards), etc.

Personally I could not recommend any of the three in the previous post. Slingpoint is laughable at best IMHO.  Buds has a great selection but treat you like shit.

Classic Firearms and Antique and Modern firearms in Lexington would be the ones I head to.

I am not prejudiced against any particular types of firearms.  I, as well as the folks I will be traveling with, have an appreciation for everything from reproduction matchlock's to the latest and greatest from Dillon Aero (and everything in between).

Kieslers is right across the river in Indiana from Louisville.  They have a good deal every now and then.

Sheps Sports World, Fleming county, he carries HN's, Glocks, Kimber, He is a surefire and barret dealer.

His preferance is smithing on 1911's, good guy

There are others but i don't think i would recommend you taking the time.

Go to Sportsmans WH in lexington it's just off take I64 to I75 and take the first Exit, it's well worth it.

SlingPoint is a small store who specializes in AR's. We also carry a variety of other small arms and we are Glock armorers. Visit us at www.slingpoint.com
I have never been quite sure what crawled up CbtEngr1 butt to take a dislike to us but he has been one negative individual toward us and my understanding he never has set foot in our store.  As far as his statement about Antique and Modern. Nice shop. As is all the others in town.  Next time you are in the Lexington Area stop by any of them and price shop.

ARFCOMMERS:
FWIW, Jeff sent me a personal email stating that he would sue me if I posted negative stuff about his store.

Jeff, If this is the way you want to treat potential customers and have people perceive your store, then I believe they should know how you act. As you are newly registered here I can only imagine that your employee that works here or another forumite who pm'd me about some things told you that your store had been mentioned on ARFCOM.

I have seen your store and your gunshow booth. I was not impressed by either.  That is my opinion as asked for in a industry forum by a forumite who wants to know.

You have claimed to be black rifle specialists but when I asked the slingpoint crew-cut owner guy at the gun show (not sure if this is you or not) if you all had an M16A1 stock at a show, they said "what is the difference between an A1 and A2 stock." Whats up with that?

If you look around, there are people who discuss all the stores in lexington here and not just yours. If you don't like any perceived negative publicity, perhaps you should strive to be better and PROVE your store's value rather than running around threatening to sue people who don't like what you have offered.  BTW, I am not the only here who has mentioned you negatively so I guess you are sueing everyone.  Personally I would say you could use some thicker skin if you are going to be in business for yourself.

Borders (No, not the bookstore). Ashland, KY exit off of I-64. North a few miles, just uphill from McDonald's on right side of road. Takes 5 minutes to get to from 64. Hunting, EBR's, pistols (Kimber, Glock, & lots more) shotguns, fishing, bow hunting, safes, ammo, etc. etc.

+1 on Shep's.  www.shepsworld.com

Good selection of Benelli, Cooper, ARs, Kimbers, Smiths, old Winchesters.

Don't be put off on tag prices, Jason will usually come off those quite a bit.

I've not been particularly impressed by Slingpoint, I'll never go in Evan's again.

AMF and Classic I'll usually try to go by if I'm in Lex.  Bud's is great if you get the right person, look for Jim.

I personally like the guys at Classic.  They aren't great with their prices, but they are on par with everyone else and prices seen online.  They tried to undercut me by about $200 on a trade that I wanted, but I understood going in that a trade was going to be difficult.  They do seem to have the best selection of AR accessories of all the Lex. shops.

Evans ... never had good service.  Seems like thier attitude is they are doing you a favor by asking if you need help.  Seems like a good selection of stuff though.

Antique & Mod.  Good guys.  Prices have always been high for what I was in the market for.  Not much for the AR crowd.

Buds ... hit and miss.  Best prices I have come across for the purchases I have made.  Good selection of stuff for all price ranges.  Cheap to ultra $$$'s can be found there.

Sling point.  Small shop.  Seems like good guys.  I live about an 1.5 hours away and was looking for a Walther P99 compact.  They told me they had one on the phone and it was a great price.  I made the drive up there only to find out it was a SW99.  Not the gun I wanted.  Pissed me off at first, but understand those guys might not know the difference.  I did go up there looking for specific stuff mentioned on their website on another occasion.  It was accessories ... nothing in stock like was mentioned on their website and the guy I talked to, acted like he didn't even know what the product was.  I was also told it could be ordered for me and that he would call me when it came in.  That was 5 weeks ago.  No call.  I am not saying they are bad business.  I am saying that they are a small business and should be thought of as such.  If you live in Lex then they may be great, but for me, I think I might be looking elsewhere.  On plus though, they aren't open during the day.  They are the only store that is open late in the evening (unless you count Dick's and Sportsman's Warehouse).  That is advantage in my book.  Just my humble opinion. h.gif

I thought it funny here that no one mentioned the store Gunsite (out nicholasville road near the mall) as a store to see. Does anyone even go there? I stopped going to it since I went in and the guy smokes like a freight train and has as small a selection as someone else mentioned here.

I've driven by, but have never stopped in.  I didn't even know it existed until about a year ago.  Someone else told me the smoke in there would kill you.  That's why I have passed up ...

Strange, I've been in at the Gunsite many times and I do not recall ever seeing Don smoking.

Now, on the other hand, if you are thinking about Wild Cody's at Richmond, there you will find a modest selection of firearms and all the cigarette smoke you could ever dream of.

Well maybe its not well ventilated and he lets customers smoke, but its there...unless he stopped in the last 2-3 years since I went in. Just thought it was odd no one ever mentions it as a local gun store.

Never heard of Wild Cody's but there is a pawn shop in Berea (I think it is) that comes to the gun shows. They generally have stuff I buy but never been to their store. Something like HK Pawn.

IIRC, HK Pawn is in Hazard and is owned by Kenny Woods (who used to put on gun shows and has recently sold the gun shows to RK Gun Shows from Iowa or some mid-western state -- they continue to use his name on the shows for "name recognition" hop
