I work on the 7th floor of the Bank of America building in Plano.

We look out the window a lot because there are often interesting car accidents and sometimes some fine looking ladies in the parking lot.

Yesterday, we noticed a build up of marked and unmarked Plano police cars in the parking lot. The officers got out in cammo pants and T-shirts and began to congregate under a tree. Eventually we counted over a dozen officers.

They all broke up and then headed back to their individual cars.

When they got to their cars however, they all pulled out Ar-15s, regrouped and headed into the building.

I could tell that it must not be anything serious because they all had those yellow 'chamber unloaded' things inserted in their weapons.

The bottom floor of the building is a bank though and I heard from the building super that a lot of people shit their pants while cashing their paychecks.  I mean even I would think twice to be in a bank and look up to see twelve guys with ARs and cammo  on!

Super said that the 9th floor is vacant and that Plano PD is renting it for training.

Will be interesting to see if there is any more activity this week.

Ed

the PD here spends a bunch of time in schools during the summer training.  I had to work at one, and I was told to not go past the first hallway, as I might get shot with some rubber bullets.

A family member used to be a preacher in Plano, and a church member was on the SWAT team.  He gave them permission to train in the classrooms and stairwells during the week when the building was mostly vacant.  But they surprised the staff members a few times...

It seems strange that Plano PD doesn't have a permanent indoor training facility for this type of work, but it sort of makes sense if you think about it.  By training in different real-world environments, they probably get a better feel for the real world.

Didn't Plano just knee-jerk into AR's after the Richardson shootout?

Might need a little coaching on keeping them in case/concealed/out of bank customers line of site, until needed.

That was my thought exactly.  They all took their weapons out of their cases and left the cases in the cars before coming in.  Coming in with cammo and cased weapons may cause some "WTF?" reactions, but coming in with ARs on slung on single point slings probably soiled some pants.

You need to be working in a yard or an alley and see the SWAT guys stage on the house next door.  Try to remain calm while standing on a second floor walkway with a black cordless drill in your hand when they kick in the door on an apartment across the courtyard from you. Hell I've even had a DPS trooper use my company van for cover during a hostage standoff.

I told my Boss after that one I wanted some of those INNOCENT BYSTANDER T-shirts for company uniforms.

Looking for hard cover while these guys work will raise your heart rate I guarantee.

I'll relay the message.

BTW, that's only half the shootout. There's another video of the shootout w/Plano PD later on in the chase. This one was with Richardson PD.

I'm an installer/repairman for Verizon. I was working in Sherman and in a six month period was either working at a house next door or two doors down from SWAT raids four times. Not to mention almost having a K9 siced on me after I set off an alarm system by mistake. Lucky for me I knew the officer that made the call.

The standoff was in a little wide spot farming community in Dorchester in Grayson county. A guy running from the police decided to park his car in the exact spot I was standing in about 10 seconds after running over the spike strips. He rolled out of the car with a Ruger 9mm in his hand and about 15 LEO's drew down on him with me standing about 10 yards behind his car. Needless to say I unassed the AO real quick.

Yeah, kinda. Was talking to a few of the guys I worked out with before, they are personal AR's. AFAIK Plano PD has not issued any. Which is not saying much, I've been a little outa touch for the past year or so. But hell, they can have almost all the Sage guns they want.
