I know we have to declare a firearm when flying. However, do we also have to declare if we are taking just part of it, such as the lower receiver only?

Thanks! Does it have to be in a separete case or I can lock it in a case and put it in my suitcase and then also lock it?

It will have to be in a locked container, the TSA will look at it and put it in a another piece of your luggage. Do not let tehm put that bright tag on it and send it seperate. If they do i guarantee you won't have it on the other end of the flight.

So it is in it's own container, locked and tagged by TSA, then put into another piece of your luggage, locked and then boarded on the plane in the cargo hole.
