Anyone ever tried this?  Looking on the gov surplus site large lots (like 8000 cans) go for about $0.25 each.  But you have to pick them up at the military base.  The base in Washington is simi close.  Smaller lots (like 800) go for around $1.00 a can.  I need like 20-30 cans not 800-8000, but reading here it seems like people are always in need.  Hell if there is a strong need in Oregon I might just buy an 800-8000 can lot and sell to people if there is demand.  Factoring in transportation costs and/or shipping might jack the cost up.  What do you guys think?

I'm in need of about 10 cans.

If you got em for 1$ a can, I'd be game for 2$ a can if I had to pick them up.

Hell, you could prolly sell them on craigslist ASAP for 2$ a can.

Which size can?  .50?

50 cans would be need to justify that.. I can get 30 cal cans for $2 a can at a local surplus store.

Where do you get them for $2 a can? They are $10 a can at Aloha surplus for 7.62.

I think he is just gauging interest at this point.

Someone on the local geocaching forum bought a pallet of ammo cans from a surplus auction in Washington a year or two ago.  There were quite a few damaged, rusty, and mostly worthless cans on the pallet, so don't be surprised if this is the case.

That being said, I'm sure I'd buy 10-20 fat fifties or just fifties at around $2/can.

I think you should look into getting a group buy on a pallet of .223 or .308 or something that comes in cans.

I'm in for a few thousand rounds if so.

I found a good stash at The Post Exchange in Damascus. 3/$10 .50 cal (Fat .50's) and I think $2 for .30.

They also had cannon cans, etc. etc.

Same here.  2k each, 308 and 223.  Perhaps a k each of 9 and 45 too but above all, feed the rifles first.

Well you can get MANY different sizes.  Here's an example of some 5.56 cans (about the same size as a 50) that went for about $1 per can.

I'm just looking if there is enough interest to think about a group buy, not actually start one without prior approval......right PETA????

Yes, but that's the old address. I think they moved to 282nd, between Haley and Dee Rds.

I sent an IM with the new area.

If you can't find it, give 'em a call.

Bah.  I tried calling this morning and the number is disconnected.  I may wander over that way tomorrow and see what I find.

Thanks!

Oh ya, did I mention I'd buy a few ammo cans at a decent price if someone eventually were to do a group buy.

NoAim was 100% correct, SGT Gator's Post Exchange is located on "282nd, between Haley and Dee Rds".  They have a new phone number - 503.663.0862

All they had left were Fat 50s and 50s with lots of rust and nasty, cracked seals.

However I did pick up 3 30mm cans for a grand total of $6, plus $15 in gas.

In conclusion - I'm still in the market for 5-10 50/Fat 50 ammo cans.
