Looks like it might be the tailcone off the aft end of the fuselage?

I can't remember which it was, either a dummy bomb or an external fuel tank, but it fell off an Air Force jet flying over my uncle's house outside of San Antonio when I was a kid.  Went through the roof right into my cousin's bedroom.  Luckily no one was in the room at the time.

That's scary. Complete items designed to be aerodynamic in their own right probably carry a lot more speed than loose pieces/contol surface pieces. Did they get to keep it?

I remember some piece of a Delta flight landing in a open field between some homes and businesses in Carrollton, from a flight headed in to DFW.  Was early 90s if I remember correctly.

No, they didn't get to keep it.  I think they got kicked out of their house for awhile until the military investigated it and then figured out how to remove it from the second floor of the house.
