I read this on WSBRadio.com.

Pennington Lobbies for Weapons Ban Renewal
(WSB Radio) -- Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington called on President Bush and Congress to renew the assault weapons ban. Pennington told WSB's Jamie Dupree, "We're confronted with these assault weapons on the street each and every day. And if this assault weapons ban laspes, it means that people can go to weapons stores and guns stores and buy assault weapons that have clips up to 100 rounds. We're concerned about it. Most of the murders that happen in our city that are gang related, we are finding that people are using these assault weapons. They're not being used just for sporting events."
Appearing at a news conference, Pennington along with the chiefs of police from the District of Columbia, Los Angeles and Seattle predicted an increase in violent gun crimes if the bans does expire.

The assault weapons ban is due to expire Monday and a Congressional leader says it will be allowed to expire. The Justice Department's research division studied the ban and concluded its renewal would do little to change the levels of gun violence.

I sent him a rather lengthy email telling him how much B.S. it is that he would do somehting like this and called his statements false at the very lesat and an outright lie at the most.

There is a poll there also, so make sure you vote. The percentage of people calling for the ban to die is blowing away those calling for an extension.

I sent him an email through the apd website before reading this thread, and I did call him out for being a police chief and not knowing his terminology.

If the Chief wants to do something about criminals, perhaps he can do something to speed up the execution of the more than 10,000 criminal warrants outstanding in his jurisdiction.
