A deluxe, DPMS .308LR rifle! Wahooo! I have done some wheeling and dealing over the last several days, and scraped up the money to get an AR10. After talking to Coal Creek, and knowing myself, I realized there's no way I'm gonna be able to wait until close to Christmas for one of the SEBRs...as nice as they are.

I started looking around for good deals on AR10s, ever since I saw the one that just sold for $800 on the EE the other day.

I've seen the DPMS rifles on line..they look cool, and have some features that the Eagle doesn't for the same price. I called Jeff at CMMG, he had a couple in stock, and bang...the credit card was out, and I ordered one! 2nd Day shipping will have it to my FFL on Friday...unfortunately, I won't be able to get out there Fri. Eve...I'm gonna be stuck downtown in DC in a meeting...even if it breaks up at 5:00, I got to drive my boss to National; it would take a police escort to make it to Manassas by 7:00 hehehehe.

So, I'll have this puppy on Sat. morning, then on to the range. I'm psyched!

Cliffy, if you're around on Sat, and not working, you're more than welcome to come out the Izaak Walton with me and start breaking this thing in.  I've got to stop at Galyan's and buy some good .308...bet that's gonna hurt the old pocket book!

Awesome, let us know how it shoots and bring it to the NRA some time.

And order yourself some Portugese surplus.  Sportsman's Guide had some and Ammoman has some surplus .308 but I'm not sure where it's from.

I've been thinking about a .308 rifle and haven't decided between an AR-10 or an M1A.  So I'm looking forward to your reviews.

Congrats on your new addition to the family. It looks like it was a fine choice.

I have to admit I was torn between this and the SEBR....but I just know my life would have been a living hell waiting for the damn thing.  I had a nice talk with someone at Coal Creek, and they sort of mentioned the "target" for Armalite to deliver those rifles was 4 months from when the got all the orders, or something like that...my eyes glassed over at the "4 months" reference.  

I was also influenced by the price, AND the good stuff that was being posted about them in the equipment exchange.  

Motopix, if all goes well, and I get enough lead down range saturday to break it in, I may be headed to the NRA wed. night or so.  I'll let ya know.  

For break in, I'm gonna go with one of the commercial loads that have shot well in some of the test guns.  Now, all I gotta do is find my .30 dewey rod...havent' used a rod ever since I got my Otis kit.  But the old timers at Izaak Walton will skin me alive if they don't see me pushing a rod down the bore after every shot lol.  

I'll post a range report Sat. night, hopefully.

Very nice.  A .308 AR is probably going to be the next rifle I buy, so I'm really looking forward to hearing how yours performs.

I'll be at the IWLA saturday morning for their orientation (i'm thinking about joining).  I'll keep an eye out, i'd like to see one of them thangs in person.

curt,  weekend orientation last 3 hours or thereabouts...pop on down to the rifle range after that...I should get there around 11:00, or earlier...I'll keep an eye out for ya!

Too bad you guys didn't mention this sooner...I'd have told you to go to the weeknight one...it's only 90 minutes hehehe.  

Anyway, bulldog, come by and scope out the range after you're done...don't know what lane I'll be in, but I'm sure I'll be the only guy there with one of these lol.  

Well i joined the IWLA today.  Fenian i'm not sure which one you go to, the chapter i joined is the arlington-fairfax chapter.  I didn't realize until today that it was a different chapter than the one in PW county!

Anyway i was a little groggy after all of the orientating. man last sunday i spent all day at quantico getting RSO certified.  I've got to stop spending my weekends like this.  so i had my 7 year old with me who just wanted to GO after 2.5 hrs so we took a quick tour and split.  I did stop and take a quick look at the range, niice!

Curt, were you sitting in the 2nd row  up front on the right?

Curt...I belong to the Arl/Fx chapter...I rolled in to the range about 12:00...it looked like the bulk of the cars from orientation were gone, so I guess I missed you.

Uh-huh...so thats why you sold me that upper for such a good price!
BTW, I just bought an Oly lower w/RRA 2 stage to go with the bull bbl upper. Can't wait to see how it shoots. Gotta stock up on some 77gr black hills...
