A friend called me and said he saw it on WTVF ch. 5 in Nashville. I missed the story. Anyone else see it? No link on wtvf.com

Story I heard was home made MGs, suppressors, and a booby trapped safe (ie live grenade w/ a tripwire).  We'll see if that story pans out.  Supposedly it was one of the guys that frequents the gun shows a lot.  Tall, lanky guy was the only description I could get.

Story I heard was home made MGs,

I seem to recall another story about an ATF raid where their "specially trained agent" identified some "homemade machineguns" that apparently turned out to be dummy guns by the time they got to court.

And I rarely believe any vague news reports of "explosives", since any blackpowder shooter will most likely have a pound or more of "explosives" (it says "explosive" on the blackpowder can).

Then there was that raid in Cheatham County, several years back, where they paraded the confiscated arsenal out for the press to take pictures before loading them into a van.  Sure hope that guy had "permits" for each of those bolt action rifles and pump shotguns that he had put a camo paint job on.

What gives ch 5 the idea they have a right to tromp all over this guys property also. Poor guy is guilty until proven innocent. Then the media will never tell how the case ends..

ATF has cried "Machine gun and Explosives!" before when it turned out to be Airsoft and reloading powder.

They have a long history of getting great headlines but no criminals.  Even if they are right, who cares if he wasn't hurting anyone?

Saw this last night and couldn't believe they were blowing shit up with no charges...

Couldn't they have "experts" that determine the probable charges on site before claiming and destroying shit?

They do have "experts".  The same "experts" who seem to have a problem with identifying something as a machinegun, then send it to the lab and the lab can't get it to fire.

And it's easier to state that an explosive is too dangerous to move, and blow it up, than to present the explosive to the court and have to explain that they confiscated something that is legal to purchase and own (with no permit required).

Possibly.  Blackpowder would be more likely, and about the only restrictions on having it are the fire codes requiring a powder magazine if you have over a certain amount.

But But But it's a violation of a federal tax law!!!  We can't let anybody violate federal tax laws, or everyone would be violating them, the government would run out of money, society would break down...  it would be absolute chaos!!!

I had to drive through Rutherford county, this evening.  I can't begin to imagine the dangers and hardships I would have had to endure, if the BATF had not maintained order by conducting their raid to investigate a possible violation of a 1934 tax law.

And while this was going on, how many law enforcement agents along the Mexican border have been threatened with death (by the mexican drug cartels), this month?
