Brace yourselves.

AIM Surplus is raising the price of South African 7.62 on Monday 8/21/06.

www.aimsurplus.com/

The site did not say how much but it's at $175.00 per 980 rd can right now. I'll bet it going up to $200.00.

As the owners of all the remaining SA in the country AIM is holding the cards on price. Brian at AIM has mentioned that they will have it around for a while longer but it will never be cheaper than it is today.

It seems like just last month this stuff was .15 a round.

I know I'm looking forward to the next wave of good surplus. What other countrys have we not sucked the 7.62 from yet?

These are the good old days.

Don't have a .308, so I ordered a can of Radway Green...I needed an excuse to send them my 03 FFL anyway.

Neither do I. I just ordered 2 cases of the SA.308 since I'm planning on getting a RRA .308 later this year when they finally begin shipping.

I got some Radway, too. I don't why but this .223 stuff seems to evaporate.

SA from AIM works great in 4 dif. weapons I've run it thru

was going to order another 2 cases, but decided to get the Girard case trimmer instead.
don't see ammo going down in price.   But can still buy components for same prices.

trimmin semi auto rifle brass has been the only slow link in my reload chain for a while

SA .308 is great for plinkin the 9"x9" steel at 200 yds, but w/ handloads poppin clays w/ irons at that distance.    don't do much blastin into dirt, etc.

even AK's drop groups in half w/ consistant ammo

off to Polo to burn some SA thru HK91.  USPS just brought trigger group back from Williams Trigger Specialties yesterday.

Just ordered 2 cases. SA is nice ammo. I'm gonna order a couple of cases of Radway Green tonight when the wife isn't looking

I'd be interested in knowing how much shipping is for your two separate orders if you end up buying 2 Radways. I put 2 of each on the same order and the shipping totaled $56.

The Radway shipping is $13; the SA is $19.

You got a deal.

I just got through thinking I was all stocked up on ammo because I picked up 2K of 5.56.

Ahhhhhh!  My wallet is in it's death throes.

Ordered 2 cases of SA, and some 7.62x54R for the POS Mosin.

Thanks for the heads up racecar.

Aargh, I am really wrestling with this right now...I have a 308 enfiled and 700 rounds of ammo for it, and at the current rate of 20 rounds per range session, one range session per month it will take 3+ years to use up all the ammo.

Gonna think about it a little longer, still got a few hours.

Shit.

I'm sitting on a (large) check, but it won't be cashed in time.

Glad I bought the two I did.

Said to hell with it and bought 4 battlepacks for $115 shipped.

I figured this is one of the few times I know that the ammo price will be going up with certainty, and I know I will shoot it all at some point.

Besides, my M1A might get hungry too, I might actually take it out in the future and shoot it at some point!

Dawg, what kind of Enfield do you have? Is it one of the ones that Aim is selling now from india for 170.00? If so what kind of condition was it in ,and how is function and accuracy etc.?

All .308 Enfields are Ishapore converted No. 1 rifles. They are Indian rifles and generally shoot fine and accurately. The rifles are better than the ammo they made, that's for sure.

Yup, Ishapore enfield from AIM.  Dead nuts accurate, and in pretty good condition other than being slathered in shiny black paint ("stoving").  The only probelm I have had is an occasional bolt-over-bullet failure to feed on the left hand side of the magazine.  A few other people have mentioned having this happen, but proper bolt manipulation can prevent this (push up a little on the bolt handle when pushing forward to take up the slop.)

You betcha, except for one thing.... They are not conversions of No.1 mk3's but newly made in 7.62 in the 60-80's hence the 2A designation.

So these are Indian made rifles, not English made ? Are they worth it? Do they shoot better with other 308 ammo?

Sorry, but they were old British Empire rifles converted in the 60's to .308. The barrels for conversion are still readily available if you still look. All No. 1 rifles dude

I find the original .303 rifles to be a bit more accurate.

I'll shoot minute of a hand at 100 right 3 inches up 5 on a regular pintable target with.... indian (gasp) surplus 308.

It suits my plinking, and hell if rifle implodes while shooting its own countries ammo, it was meant to be.

Patriot, you are a great guy but you have no idea what you are talking about.

India received its independence from Great Birtain on August 15th, 1947.  No2A Ishapore Enfields started production in 1964.  My personal No 2A has a production date of 1965 stamped into the receiver.

A few of the parts of the earlier Ishapores (such as the ladder sights, etc) were leftover production from Biritsh rifles.  Recievers and barrels and most the other parts were Indian produced, and they were not rebuilds.

The receivers were made of different steel to be able to handle the increased pressure...the Brits converted No.4 rifles to .308 NATO, SMLE receivers made for .303 can't handle it.

Then I stand corrected. The info I received on Ishapores came from an old man that was selling guns when the Dead Sea was still sick. He's forgotten more about guns then I'll ever know, guess he was wrong. Thanks for the info.
