I just bought a little .223 and now need to find some (1k rounds)7.62x39 .

Before I bought the 223 I studied the ammo chart in the AR-15 ammunition section. It was very helpful to see what others had success with and where it was cheapest to order. I ended up buying it locally on sale for about the same as the cheapest internet place.

Now I'm looking for AK food, but I didn't find the same data here for 7.62x39 . Is it here and I just missed it??

Where do you get your local ammo and where do you order from? What brand do you use?

I'm considering buying the Monarch at Academy for $2.86/box. Good idea/bad idea?? You don't have to buy a thousand at a time with this stuff. I can buy 10 or 20 boxes each visit since I go there fairly frequently anyway.

If you are wanting thousands of rounds, $2.86 plus tax is the convenient and expensive way to do it. That's over $150 per case. I'm expecting it to get back down to the $100 or less per case range when the supply line gets refilled.

Sportsman's Guide has Wolf for about $95 + shipping, they deliver pretty quick most of the time. AK's and SKS are designed to shoot Wolf ammo.

I've had good luck with ammoman.com and at least when they say their stuff is in stock, it really is, unlike the experience I had with Sportsmans Guide. I think I paid $139 SHIPPED for the last case of 7.62x39mm FMJ I got. It got here 3 days after I ordered it. Not bad. Keep in mind when most people talk about the other prices, they aren't including shipping. Once that's factored in, I've found ammoman to be pretty competitive. At least I've never had the out of stock game played on me by them.

ETA: If you look up top where it says QUICK FORUM LINKS, there second one over is AK-47. Hit that and search around and you should find some ammo talk over there. They don't have the daily updated list like they do for .223 on the AR-15 side but it has been suggested. The more people that visit and suggest it, the better the chances are of getting it there. There's also ususally good suggestions over there anyway.
