Just thought I'd let ya'll know....

I've was looking for 7.62 X 39 last week and here are the current prices:
Bob's in Norfolk $10 a box of 20
A & P in VA Beach $3 a box 20
Armory has not recieved any shipments of 7.62 x 39

So I pick some up from A & P, they were only letting customers buy 10 boxes at a time so I went twice and had a friend of mine purchase some for me.  They had maybe 10 cases last I checked.  There was no way in hell I was going to pay $10 a box,  Nice of A & P not to price gouge.

BTW the ammo was wolf soft point.

Gink's Gun Shack (always sounded kind of creepy to me) northeast of Lynchburg wanted $200 for a case of Wolf HP. I'm not going to buy any until I see some prices coming down. If that means months, it means months. I'd give anything to find it locally for $3 a box.

I have about 390 rds left, and I always keep enough ammo to keep every magazine I have loaded... so I can only let loose on about 190 rds...

Does anyone know the REAL story on the shortage?

I magaged to pick up 500rds of wolf yesterday for $70, not too bad given the current situation.  All he had was the 500rd pack or I'd have gotten more.  He did have a few of the barnaul 120rd "battlepacks.

Check out Gander Mountain in Fredericksburg ... $2.49 per box of 20.  Comes out to $125 for a case of 1000. Not bad considering prices nowadays.

That sucks for you AK guys.  A few months ago I was ready to take the AK plunge and buy one but have decided not to now that ammo is so hard to come by at reasonable prices.  Hopefully this will all cycle out.

About 1500rds left...in my basement
I'm not shooting it till the "drought" is over and it's back to $40 per 500 again.
I've got enough other calibers to keep me busy.

The reason I bought an AK clone was because of the cheap rifle/ammo combonation.  Now I am planning my first AR-15 purchase.

I ordered a case of Wolf 154gn SP from cabelas today.   Came to $115.74 delivered to my door.   May take a month to get here but I have 1800 rounds on hand and no AK yet so I am ok.

This is the thread with the number if you guys want some.

I just bought 500 rds of Brown Bear from a dude for $65 out the door... not bad... but I still miss the good ol' days.  He's got one box left if anyone's interested.  It's in Christiansburg.

Does anyone know the REAL story on the shortage?

From what I hear the story is the Iraqi Army bought up all the production from Russia. Apparently there are boatloads on the way. Just no idea when it'll get here...

I got an email from Sportsman's Guide that the case of Wolf FMJ I ordered February 11 shipped Friday.  I think there will be lots of 7.62 x 39 around in a few weeks.
