Not familiar with a 7400 being called a carbine, but had a 7400 when I was younger.

None of the aftermarket magazines ever worked as well as the factory magazine, but that may have changed in the past few decades.

Try here www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=18397&title=REMINGTON+740%2f742%2f7400+10-ROUND+MAGAZINES

I have a question, the literature on the 7400 and the Remington website keep refering to the loading procedure as 1) manually load the chamber by hand, then 2) insert a full magazine.

Can't one simply insert a full magazine and pull back on the charging handle like any normal semi-auto?

Is this some Remington "feature" they have imposed to dissuade anyone from using the 7400 for anything beyond close cover deer hunting?

The obvious answer, of course, is that one could get a Garand if they really wanted a 30.06 military semi-auto.

And yes, the 7400 isn't designed for sustained fire.

But, are they forcing one to load the first round manually?

Responses from 7400 owners greatly appreciated.

It has been a while, but that's the procedure you'd use to load to maximum capacity - a full mag plus one in the chamber.

Insterting a mag and cycling the action will load the chamber, and work fully well.

He is right. But you can just insert the mag and pull back on the charging handle then obviously the bullet would go into the chamber, the only thing is it's 1 less bullet that you have in your gun. Whenever I shoot my 30-06 I always just insert the mag and then pull back on the charging handle. Much easier and plus if you have a 30-06 and your hunting all you need is one shot. Cause that is one powerful rifle there.hug.gif

My father's got one that refuses to run right... FTE's, and FTF's... I've seen one at the range that ran like a top. It's already been back to Remington twice to no avail...
