Gunner, any chance you guys have T-shirts or hats or anything? I know my dad would love to support you guys. I'm sure he will be in this thread sooner or later, he lives up in CT.

Working on it. The Cadets report back this Sunday and then it's full speed ahead. One of the task will be to build a match website with results of past years, photo's, Sponsors links, match schedule and if the lawyers figure it out some sales links to hats/T-shirts/mugs/coins and such. We'll be at the CT State match with our shirts as well.
I just want another full match, I missed last years match with a family heath emergency a few days before the match. |
|
see you guys there!
already 26 spots taken, dont wait to sign up! |
|
Only been up for a total of four days and the match is half full.
Don't miss out on this match register now. Thank you for the support!!! Gunner |

I would be the aforementioned dad, and I'm already fudging my work schedule to "spectate" for a day, and I am a T-shirt/hat slut (still waiting on one particular hat, hint, hint) |

Is this match something that a novice can compete in? Every other year its been my drill weekend and impossible for me to get to.
ETA- Any idea on round count? And can someone explain the whole squad thing? Is it a 2 day match or are competitors only shooting on 1 day? |

|
It's a one day match format, the match has grown in numbers and starting last year HGC has allowed us to open it up to more shooters with a second day.
Round count, right now the Cadets are submitting the stages and they are being looked over by the staff. My goal is to have 100 pistol and rifle and at least 50 shotgun rounds. Novice? There is and will be ALOT going on and we will use IDPA scoring. If' you don't shoot IDPA/IPSC/USPSAor have never shot a multi-gun match before I'd try to find a few club level matches to get some trigger time in. I've also asked the Sig Sauer Academy to set up an Introduction to Competitive three gun course for my newer staff members. This course will be taught there Saturday and Sunday over Labor Day weekend. It's a rapid way to get up to speed with everything from safety, gear, guns, drills and by the time you leave you'll be shooting your pistol on plates at 100 yards with ease. Contact them directly for course info. It won't be training wasted. |

Roger, I signed up for that Sunday. I shoot some informal IPSC now, and am planning on doing some other club level matches to make sure my gear is squared away.
I'm a novice in the aspect of never having shot an IDPA event. Few quick questions: How much of the IDPA rules will be in effect? IE concealable holsters, target distance, etc Are cargo pockets acceptable for carrying spare mags in? Or should I just plan on using my TA-50? |

Or should I just plan on using my TA-50? you dont want to use a concealable holster, i think it is allowed but I didnt see anyone using one hip or thigh you will need to carry several handgun and rifle mags and extra shotgun rounds through every stage- I dont think there were any stages last year where you used all 3 guns, but almost all stages are pistol and one longun. i dont think cargo pockets will cut it i think there was one stage with rifle only, and one with pistol only (inside, in the dark) light on rifle was required last year, and the dark stage with pistol only was NO light on gun, just a flashing strobe so night sights helped a lot |
|
You need ammo carriers vs cargo pockets.
Also brush up on your 100 yard pistol skills-so I have "heard" And don't shoot any props(inflatables) Don't miss this, it is a great time |

MGM targets is now a match sponser for the event and Travis (Mike's son) will be shooting with some of the Cadets. With registration only open for a week and a half we are two thirds full already.

I can get that in high brass and it runs better or anyone know where I can get high brass 7 1/2? |

#6 is good to go. There was a problem with heavy loads beating up the swingers. We don't plan on using them in that fashion for this match.

I broached the hat question and it is the only item that we have that is unique to the members of the team and they voiced thier opinion to keep it that way. There are many other ways to display your support and we will have plenty of T-shirts for sale at the match.
We are working with the CGA Exchange staff to stock CGA Shooting sports hats and shirts in the future. (For all five shooting teams) |
|
Can't seem to find any details about the match anywhere, it is not listed on the HGC Calendar of Events. I would like to know times or see a schedule.

all day on the 23rd and 24th Yep, saw that but don't know what time everything starts. I am going to check it out and get a feel as an observer before I leap in myself. I'm sure there must be some kind of daily schedule for the competitors but then again maybe it hasn't been set yet. |

Stop on by anytime if your lurking. As stated the first hammer falls at 0900 with a shooters meeting at 0830.
There will be a few sponsors to visit and be sure to purchase our Team t-shirt. Bring your teens/young adults for some career planning as a representative from the CG Academy admissions department will be there to answer questions about our four year program. I've also set up with the staff from the Coast Guard recruiting office to be present on Saturday to provide information on the CG enlisted programs. |
|
Making my plans to be there, hopefully I will arrive early and get to soak in some stuff before the action begins.

CoF? You'lll see it Saturday or Sunday morning, did you want to build it in your back yard and practice, LOL. They never come out like they do on paper anyway. I didn't get involved with the stage design this year, much more than I need going on right now to worry about it. The stages will be challenging. Spoiler Alert************************************* We (Myself and CT Sport Shooters Association) are already making plans for some type of spring event, not a big match, smaller in scale and much lower in entry fees. We'll hash it over during the match and hot wash meetings to see if there is interest. Two of my staff got orders to Iraq next year so I'm loosing most of my manpower and creativity. |
|
No, Im not gonna build it in my backyard
I would just like to know if there are any requirements like last year- light on rifle etc. at this time i am planning on light on rifle and pistol |
|
No crazy dark house rifle stage this year, on the pistol is ok but you'll have to keep it on the whole match if you use it in the indoor. (Office Topic just this morning)

Weather looks great for a change, setup started yesterday. Looking forward to a successful match!

I'll be there by 8:30, what is the best way to watch and learn?

I'll be there by 8:30, what is the best way to watch and learn? A mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open. (that and your eyes and ears) J/k, Watch Travis Gibson from MGM or several of the other shooters with high performing reputations. After the stage is over is the time to ask questions, it's best not to go at them while they are prepping to shoot the stage. BTW, stages were completed before sunset. The clean up begins at 0600, shooters brief at 0830 (register before then) First shot down range at 0900 sharp. |

I spent the morning "spectating", and to my completely inexperienced eye, it seemed very well run. All the Safety Officers were very focused on maintaining control, the shooters were having a good time, and what I saw and understood of the stages, they were well thought out and set up.
Nice job! |

Great time as always
I will upload some videos later this week Double-E, I heard there was a problem getting the shirts this year, are there 2010 shirts that might be available later? |

For those interested in the team shirts please email [email protected] for more information.
We picked up the long sleeved T's yesterday and they are not year specific. (there is only a limited amount 55) |
