Guys,

During a recent meeting of the 10-8 Staff, we discussed the possibility of doing a carbine class in the Southern California area. It would likely be a 2-day format, similar to the class we will be teaching in VA. For info on the VA class, you can go here:

We can do any format you guys want, but this a starting point. Instructors will likely be myself and Dave Pennington or Ben Lenett. Our bios are available here:

Our schedule is already booked pretty solid for 2006 but we can squeeze one or two of these in if there is sufficient interest.

Very interested in attending a 10-8 So CA class.  

I have a few questions, however...

1) When were you thinking of hosting the class?
2) Will we use a handgun along with the carbine?
3) Is there any particular reason for cutting the class time down to 2 days as opposed to 3?
4) What will the cost be and which range were you thinking of using?
5) What skill level will each student be required to have prior to the class?  

And last, but not least, where do I sign up!

Answers:

1. Sometime in the second quarter of the year or so, but the timeframe is flexible and dependent on range availability.
2. We will do pistol transitions, but the focus of the class will be on carbine.
3. Sorry, I meant a 3-day class. Typo. (The 2 key is right next to the 3 key. Would you believe it?!?)
4. Cost will be $450 for three days, and we would likely be using the Prado Olympic Shooting Park.
5. This will be a Phase-I, Basic Carbine/Pistol class, with Intermediate level classes possibly available in the future. The difficult part of having Intermediate level classes is the lack of availability of live fire houses in the area.

Ammunition requirements will be a MINIMUM of 600 rounds carbine, 200 rounds pistol. This is a GUIDELINE only. Depending on the pace of the students, we may not meet that number or we may exceed it.

As many of you know, I teach with Pat Rogers so while I am certainly not Pat, much of the format of the class will be similar since he has had a great deal of influence on my development. I would love to have Pat come out to do a class in SoCal, but unfortunately his 2006 schedule is not permitting.

Following Jeff's class a couple weeks ago, there was talk among the guys about when you would be offering a local carbine class.  There would be quite a bit of interest, I'd think.

Questions:

1. Will there be SOM?
2. Will there be team movement/shooting?

fnc80 and a couple of us socal arfcommers discussed this over dinner last week. There would definetly be an interest. We also have done some shooting at prado and we're familiar with the facility and range master. As far as i'm concerned prado is an ideal location for us, burro canyon has a shoot house but don't know if it's possible to rent it out.
i'm in agrrement with fnc80, regarding the above questions he proposed.

Thanks for your responses. Shooting on the move is part of the three-day basic curriculum though there have been times where we did not do it simply because the class was not up to it.

The team movement drills are typically not in the basic class, but again, we have done them in the basic three day curriculum when we have had an exceptional class.

most of the guys i shoot with regularly have done multiple carbine class , starting from begginer to intermedaite/advanced.most have us have taken classes from many different instructors. it's your call at the class, but looking forward to it .

I'd defintely would be interested, especially since Prado is pretty close to my home.
