We bought a condo in Las Colinas to live in while my wife teaches a few more years and we build in Bosque Co. |

Who paints shingles? I mean, is this something that is routinely done (outside the weird examples we've seen)? To me it's akin to someone getting their car painted and painting the tires and convertible top to match.

Painting brick houses charcoal and now black in my neighborhood has become popular with house flipper companies. Looks terrible.

I've seen it as well, lately. A new 'modern farmhouse' house in our neighborhood up on the hill with no shade, and about a third is flat black, to include most of the West facing walls. The rest is eggshell white, which seems difficult to keep clean. I'd have made different decisions, but this house at less looks pretty sharp for the time being.
All black is just dumb in any climate. Up in the PNW or NE, it is dumb due to legit Seasonal Affective Disorder considerations |

For some odd reason, that appears to be the new thing at least in central Texas. Black and battleship gray everywhere. The shingle painting is new though.
House down the road from me is dark gray with a dark brown garage door, red shingles and black trim. It used to be khaki tan. Idiots painted the limestone facing. Maybe it's flippers thinking black uses the least amount of paint?

What I'd like is Super Shiney Solar Refecting Silver all over. Roof, walls, silver "mirror" reflective on all the glass. etc... It would be eye melting to the neighbors, but help keep it cool inside...
