I can bring nothing to the table except a desire to build an AK.

Oh, and a Dremel MotoTool :-)

Could this be done from 80% lowers in NJ?

Is it legal to do a build party in NJ?

What kits are avilable that would be legal in NJ?

Okay, I'll bite.

The lowers need to be serial numbered and transferred like a firearm.  No manufacturing by a nonlicensee.  I don't think the kits come post-ban.  You'll have to do the neuturing yourself prior to installing.

PK90 is correct, only a 100% receiver in NJ. As for the nutering, a few minutes and a dremel with a grinding wheel, and no more bayo lug. Also a few tack welds to the slant brake or non flash hider muzzle device, and its NJ legal. Same with a folding stock. The rest is somewhat easy, with the right tools. Either a cheapy boit cutter converted to a rivet squeezer, or a a hydraulic press and a riviting jig. I have a press I could bring, and maybe a rivet squeezer, as well as the experience from a few build parties and having built a bunch of my own. I also just got a Yugo RPK kit that Id like to build soon.

Romanian SAR's IN 5.45 and .223 came with 5 & 10 round mags during the Federal ban. I have several.

The kits can be bought a few different places. Centerfire systems, Copes, You can also get the compliance parts from the same dealers. As for receivers, these guys are the best (in my opinion) nodakspud.com/page2.htm

Here is a great site that shows you whats involved

These were the only firearm manufacturers in NJ as of April, 2007.  What would you want them to do? Watch you build an AK?

Thats a federal thing. The gun has to have under a certain number of foreign made parts to be considered legal. On a gun with a threaded barrel, you have to replace 6 parts. If un-threaded, its 5 US made parts. The parts are usually, the receiver (1 part), the fire control group (3 parts) the slant brake (1 part) this must also be permanently attached for NJ, pistol grip ( 1 part) or gas piston( 1 part). I prefer to use the original pistol grip, and change out the piston. Some people use U.S. made magazine parts, but then you can only use magazines with replaced parts in the gun to be legal. Also, as far as anyone can tell, nobody has been arrested for non compliance of 922 regulations. Its something that they add to the list if you are in trouble. Still, its highly recommended that you follow the law and use the compliance parts. They arent that expensive and are fairly easy to install.

Can NYers possess (or build) guns in NJ without an FID? I would assume not, but figured I'd ask again.
Link Posted: 10/31/2007 4:12:02 PM EDT
I would love to build one, only thing I got to offer is the 'disease' to expand my collection and a few $.
Link Posted: 11/2/2007 3:01:42 AM EDT
so, how about a lower NY, (near NJ) build party?

Do guys already have receivers and parts kits?  or would people be interested in 'group purchases' for the builds...?
