Hi Everyone,

There will be a shoot at the MG range of the Manatee Gun and Archery Range on Sunday November 4th. The cost per person is $10 and you will have to check in at the main office to sign a waiver. Not a big deal, just a deal. This shoot is open to anyone and everyone, not just limited to AR15.com members. This shoot is not sponsored or endorsed in any way by AR15.com, and is being organized locally by local SW Florida shooters.

We will have the range reserved for us all day from 9-5. Pumpkins, zombies, and other targets of opportunity will be provided. All in all it should be a good time.

For those of you who have emailed/IM'd me who don't own an AR-15, please be advised you are more than welcome. Even if you don't own a firearm you are welcome. I will be performing RSO duties for the range that day and you are more than welcome to borrow my AR and fire away. Likewise, you will have the opportunity to interact with other experienced AR shooters who can guide you should you be looking to build one.

Tannerite, all Class III/NFA weapons, etc. are okay for this shoot so bring plenty of ammo. However, Tannerite must be purchased at the range, not brought onto the range, and costs $8/bottle. You are advised to put 75 yards between yourself and the Tannerite so you've been warned. Please be aware that driving a vehicle up to the firing line is not possible so just be aware.

If you have questions or concerns, please email or IM me and I will get back to you ASAP. The object of this shoot is to have fun. All the best,

Peter

Dammit Man!!!  Would surely like to attend, along with my 2 AR's, but that's too far in the future to predict.  My home is in Lakeland, but I'm working in Miami, and could be heading either North or West for another job in the next couple of weeks.  Will definitely put this on the calender in case I'm around.  WOOHOOO!!  Later.

Swing by if you can. If you can't make it though, just look for the orange smoke about 9am.

hat

Since this is my first shoot with fun targets do I need to be at the range at 9:00 to get a chance to shoot a pumpkin or will they be set out throughout the day?

I hope the range has an explosives manufacturing lecense. That is what you will have to have in order to sell the tannerite. I don't care if you sold it for $.50. Don't beat down the messenger for this info. That is the rules the BATFExplosives says you must play by. No license no charge. You can check it out on their website. Trust me I have tried to get around it.

36. When is a manufacturer's license
required?
A manufacturer’s license is needed only by
persons engaged in the business of manufacturing
explosive materials for sale, distribution, or for
business use. For example, persons engaged in
the business of providing a blasting service using
explosives of their own manufacture would be
required to have a manufacturer’s license. Persons
who manufacture explosives for their personal, nonbusiness
use would not need a manufacturer’s
license. [27 CFR 55.11: definition of
“manufacturer”, 55.41]

There it is in black and white.

This is on the tannerite website

WHY IS TANNERITE LEGAL? Answer: Manufacturing is a commerce issue governed by the feds. Page 58 CFR 5400.7 General Q&A Section, new edition: #36. When is a Federal manufacturing license required? "A manufacturer's license is needed ONLY by persons engaged in the business of manufacturing explosives materials for SALE, DISTRIBUTION, or for BUSINESS use. For example, persons engaged in the business of providing a blasting service using explosives of their own manufacture would be required to have a license. Persons who manufacture explosives for their personal, NON-commercial use would not need a license."
The above is the law of the land on the use of Tannerite. We feel that it is important to note that in some situations, a person may be in violation and not know it. Such a situation is when a range mixes Tannerite and then charges a fee to shoot it. In this situation, IF the shooter is paying the range owner any kind of reimbursement, renumeration, etc, it is "possible" that the range would be required to be licensed. Thus far, we aren't aware of this being enforced (Using Knob Creek Range as an example, they have been told that they do not need a license to mix Tannerite for the line shooters). All things are subject to change, and we will keep the public informed of any new changes in law. Some states claim that the L&I (labor and Industry dept) or other agencies have authority to regulate Tannerite. This is simply not the case if the shooter is using the targets for personal use.

I personally read both as you need a manufactures license if you sell it mixed and ready to go.  If you sell it in two parts so the shooter has to mix it  I don't think it applies the way I read it.

Here's how I read that: The person mixing the stuff is the manufacturer, and since it is for his personal, nonbusiness use, he would not need a license.
Since the club is not manufacturing anything, but merely selling the materials, which, by themselves, are non-explosive, the club does not require a license either. (Like Aim pointed out, Home Depot would need a license as well)

Now, if they were selling pre-mixed bottles it would be another issue.

But let's not turn this into a "is Tannerite legal" thread.

You are right. I was not thinking about selling it unmixed. I am not trying to police anyone or anything. I was just looking out for the other guy. I know I love to shoot my fair share and then some of tannerite. If I had a way to email you a vid I have you wouldn't believe your eyes.

I think that we will come down & play with the toys. Just got the new Bushy piston upper in the shop, need to try it out.  We also just got our 02/07, so lets see what I can build

If anyone wants decals, speak up now so we can get em ready.

Maybe we can have a for sale/trade area.

The only restriction on tannerite at this range is that it can't be purchased and taken off the property, per State of Florida laws, range insurance policies, etc. Tannerite is fine. We have lots of feds who shoot there. If it was a problem, it woulda been addressed long ago. Just don't put a minivan crater out on the range. The local swat teams hate dealing with persons hiding in spider holes.

It's going to be a good time, and yes, if you're from GA you're welcome to come down. Open for all and for all a good time.

P.S. Any proceeds from the shoot are going to go to the range and the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

Yeah, and after leaving the .357 locked during a cold range, I haven't got much of an ass left. However, Gunny's been cool about that so far. Just not sure I want him to remember. LOL. Been a while since I've been in the push up position. Be fun to not have to re-experience that little joy of military life. LOL

Ok gang, We are three weeks and some change out from having a Pumpkin Blast. This should be fun as its a great way to close out the Halloween week. Yes, I said week. I'm starting on Saturday the 27th and we'll see how it all goes in terms of fun to be had. However, the high point of the week is gonna be the shoot that Sunday at the Manatee range. I may see some of you this Thursday at the NRA dinner in Sarasota. If so, I'll see you then. If not, I'll see ya November 4th. If this goes well, I figure we'll try it again in January or February depending on time, interest, etc.

Just a note on ammo. Dick's was selling Wolf .223 for $5.99 a box. It'll probably be less as we get closer to Thanksgiving, etc. Deals on ammo can be had online such as at AIM and locally at JM's Guns in Sarasota or other places. I just picked up a 200 round value pack from Dick's but got it in GA. The price compared to Wolf sucks as it was $75 tax tag and title but still Wolf would be the cheapest, just a little dirty. Alternatively, if you're shooting a Ciener, you can shoot .22's all day for next to nothing. There should be some Ciener accessories on display and maybe for sale at the shoot. Might even have a Ciener kit for sale. More on that later. At any rate, bring some ammo and a firearm, or not if you don't have one. We'll have plenty around to test fire I'm sure. Along with a silenced session, it'll be a good time for all. If you want anything particular to eat, bring it and I'm sure we can find someone who can cook it as we have access to cookers/grills as well. Looking forward to a good time with everyone.

A .50BMG may be overpowered on this range but I wouldn't mind seeing what it will do to a pumpkin.
