Maybe I am telling you what you already know, but I would look deep before you adopt a 10mm for carry. The cost of ammo/training is prohibitive, controllabillity is an issue for more shooters, and it's an overpowered cartridge for BGs of the 2-footed variety. Plus I can see the potential of an asshole lawyer/reporter making something of it in the future.

Glock 20.

Its really the only weapon platform out there robust enough to handle the 10mm...

I agree..... and I own two 10mm myself (Glock-20s) If your getting this as your first service pistol and want to build your skills ammunition price will become a factor quickly...

You might also consider what your local law enforcement is carrying as a duty round and/or gun.

The 10mm IS a powerful round and in the right load performs well in actual shootings but keep in mind it is still a handgun and handguns DO NOT work very decicively on people. Shot placement is far more important than caliber or bullet manufacturer.

The way to get that is through practice. If you've thought all this through and still want to go with the 10mm it's tough to beat the Glock for reliability, durability, and shootability under pressure... In my humble opinion.........

They pointed you in the right direction.  I have a Glock 29 (the subcompact 10mm) for CCW for the last 10 years and I have nothing but praise for it and the cartridge.  The recoil is actually softer than the .40 cal. since it's got more weight in the slide.

Be careful which loading you choose too, not many factory loads are full power 10mm these days.  Most are detuned to .40 cal ballistics.  Winchester 175 grain Silvertips being the exception.  They're still full power 10mm and what I carry.

Handguns are weak "manstoppers" unless you hit the CNS, but a 10mm is sure as hell going to hurt a lot more.

You have about 100 yards of effective range too...  Reach out and touch someone.

I like my Witness but would prefer a rail for a duty pistol.

40 S&W in a full size Glock.

10mm is not a cheap to feed.

witness polymer "p carry" has a m1913 rail.  it has the full size frame but shorter slide.  unfortunately that is the only polymer they have that comes in 10mm.

Since you've already got a Delta and a 1076 I would use of those as my carry gun. If you have to have more ammo you better be sure the fat grip of the G20 fits you well and can shoot it well otherwise the single stacks would serve you just as well.

I'm not really sure where you're heading for your duty rounds, but you might want to look into Double Tap ammo. It's a factory loading, so I would think it would be good for carry, but it's potent. I would think a DT 165 Gold Dot would be plenty bad medicine for bad guys.

Shoot them before carrying them though.

Edit: I'd carry the Delta Elite, or find a 1006 to carry though.

What the G20 has going for it is plenty of parts, mags, and accessories.

The 1076 is a decent gun but the dearth of parts would make me think long and hard about adopting it as a duty gun.

10mm is not that expensive to shoot. I can buy Ultramax at my indoor range for just more than .45.. My Bren loves it. (its a pretty light load.. 1050 fps) Obviously I wouldnt carry that gun.. My Witness is one hell of a fun gun to shoot, especially Ron Reeds stuff.. 50 rds and you have a numb hand.....

G20 for carry though..

Glock 20, but take the advice above and shoot one before you buy to make sure the grip fits your hand well.  I assume you already have shot a few Glocks and don't have an issue with the trigger or grip angle, etc.

+1 on the Double Tap ammo for it too, but you may want stiffer springs for it from Wolff first.  Unless you are going to shoot it with full power ammo, you might as well just carry a .40S&W.  Also, I would provide yourself with some full power stuff to augment your practice sessions with.  The last thing you want to do is have your pistol go from pussycat to tiger with your life on the line and not be ready for it because all you ever shoot is mild range ammo.

I just sold my glock 10mm after having it 20 years. It was in excellent condition and I often carried it on duty. Its a liitle bulky but I had plenty of the old hot norma ammo. Much of the current stuff is not much hotter than my 40's.

There is a 10mm fourm out there.  I think it is 10mmshooters.com or somthing like that.  I'm a big fan of the 10mm as well.  The 10mm glock is probably the most popular.  Kimber just made a nice one.  EAA is kind of the poor mans 10mm, but isn't bad.
