i got a 2011 with a Shu barrel.   i noticed that the barrel is not crowned at all, which i thought is kinda odd for a custom barrel maker.  So should i get it crowned?

How does it shoot?

Is the end nicked or damaged in any way? If not, you are wasting your time. 1911 barrels are not crowned as a norm.

every barrel has a crown.

Do not touch it.

Mine does not look like that. Looks like someone just cut and faced it. Even my stock STI barrel has a crown to it.

So so. Not a accurate as my other 2011 but it might be a combo of load and gun.

If there is no protection of the muzzle, no crown at all, I would do it.

Crowning won't improve the accuracy. I'm thinking about doing it just for aesthetics.

"The crown of a gun barrel is the front, or muzzle, end of the rifling. Naturally, it only refers to rifled barrels, as are found in most rifles, pistols, and revolvers. Any deformation of the rifling at the end of the bore can result in poor accuracy, so the muzzle of the gun may be shaped in a variety of ways to protect that vital area known as the crown."

If no damage at the crown you accuracy problem can be from a incorrectly fit barel, bad loads, etc.

You may have the barrel re-corwned, but I would look else where first.

Cut it flush and reverse crown it at 45 degrees.

Go for the hi-cap blunderbuss look.
