I saw a remington brand 1911a1 in a gun store for $600. Its in perfect condition. Didn't they make about 400,000 during world war 2? Is this worth it. NRA magazine says a brand new in the box rem would be worth $1,400.

Before you spend your money, you need to check the serial number against the date and makers. You could have nothing more then a Rem Rand slide on a aftermarket frame, give us some info like the SN# save the last couple of numbers, markings, finish, some of the initials, and so on. If it is a reasonably correct one 600 is a good deal, if it is nothing but a slide with junk parts on an essex or the like frame 600 is too much. Need more info and I am sure we can give you a bit more help. Lots of scammers out there with USGI 1911s, one really needs to be careful. Post more info and I will try to look it up and reply back quickly.

BTW a BRAND NEW [WW2] Rem Rand is if USGI will really go for about 2500 bucks, if not more, pricing is not even close to all the books anymore on GI 1911s. And it seems as if it is not slowing down, this part of the gun market [GI 1911s] is still nuts.

I downloaded all the info about slide and years and stuff like that.I'm going to the gun shop as soon as I can find it when its open. Its a small shop and guy doesn't always open everyday. The gun has been there on consignment for about 20 years. Maybe the owner forgot about it. I think its cool that it was made in ny.

There was a cherry, NIB, still cardboard in the barrel, Izzy HBAR FAL, Springfield SAR48, in my local shop for more than a YEAR...around 2001-2002. Asking price was like 1800. An absolute steal, especially in NY...I just held off because I didn't know anything about it. I did the modicum of research and when I figured out it was a total steal....it was gone when I got back. All the accessories, box and all. Still kicking myself over it.

However, if it had been there that long, the $600 DOES bite me as wrong, unless they marked it up over time.

Remington Rand made over 875,000 M1911A1's during WWII. More than any other manufacturer.

Beware a pristrine pistol. Look here for helpful info on USGI M1911's and M1911A1's www.coolgunsite.com

Thanks for the info and links. The gun store owner is really strange and never open. I think I'll leave a note on his door. He still lives at home with his mom and hes 50 something. It might be just because of the gun store being in the back of the house.
