I'm interested in doing this with my G34 that I use for USPSA. I know this would put me into open class. I'm not sure if I want to spend the money on building an all out open gun though, but a red dot sight would be sweet.

My aging eyes are having trouble focusing on the front sight these days.

In for more details on how you mounted the Burris.

I needed a red dot sight for an NRA qualifier that I knew nothing about until day before match. My match gun was still in pieces so last minute I bought a Fastfire and dovetail mount for both 1911 and 870 shotgun. The idea being if it didn't work well with 1911, Fastfire would be good for shotgun. Next day was a disaster, the whole match all I could think about was taking it off, switching to iron. I'd loose the red dot from draw and run out of clock before getting my shots off. After match Fastfire was mounted on shotgun and that's where its been since.

Match gun uses an Aimpoint, nothing beats an Aimpoint for sight aqusition in my opinion but its not practical for most pistol applications. A friend of mine used a Trijicon RMR for a while. That's so much better than the Fastfire. Red dot on Fastfire isn't all that bright either. Trijicon RMR is the way to go for that type optic co-witnessed to front sight.
