I'm looking for a hard-side handgun case that will fit a full size handgun and several mags that is suitable for airline travel. Any recommendations?

I know Pelican is the de-facto standard, but I am also open to suggestions on decent quality mid-range cases.

I fly with a G17, I just drilled a hole through the handle of the case my gun came with. I drilled the hole the same width as the lock I was using then I ran a lock through that hole. The airlines were totally cool with it.

I have read that if the TSA agent can open the case even a crack, it will fail to pass. The hardside case that came with my gun has a hole for a lock, but you can still split the seam a tiny bit.

Not sure how true it is, but I'd rather not take the chance.

I went the Pelican route.

Their 1510 can be filled with your guns, ammo, clothes, etc and locked up.  The TSA x-ray looks inside to see everying... but no touching.  If you've ever had your suitcase rifled though and everything messed up... you'll apreciate being able to keep their hands off ALL your stuff.

I have flown several times in the past few years and I always use the plastic case the gun came in and I have never had a problem checking the firearm.
